Gerald Robert "Jerry" Boodry

Gerald was born at home on December 8, 1931, in Grand Island, Nebraska, to Rachel Emma (Clugy) Boodry and Leslie T. Boodry Jr. He was raised alongside his three older brothers and younger sister. In 1938, his family moved to California while his father attended diesel mechanic school, later returning to Nebraska before settling in Colorado in 1947 for his father’s work.

He graduated from Eaton High School in 1949 and began working for Goodell Brothers as a heavy equipment operator. In 1952, Gerald was drafted into the United States Army, serving honorably until his discharge in 1954. During his service, he was stationed in Korea with a field artillery battalion.

After returning home to Eaton, Gerald joined the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 9, where he remained a proud member for 70 years. In 1960, he moved to Grand County and built a long and respected career working on major construction projects across Colorado, including the Dillon, Chatfield, and Bear Creek dams, as well as Stapleton Airfield and Denver International Airport. He took great pride in his work and valued the opportunity to contribute to projects throughout the state.

While living in the mountains, Gerald developed a love for snowmobiling, hunting, fishing and spending time outdoors. It was also during this time that he met Fern Dehler, whom he married in 1965. They shared 30 years of marriage until her passing in 1995.

Gerald retired in 1994 and later moved to Greeley in 2007. There, he reconnected with his high school classmate, Wynona Sullivan. The two shared many years of companionship, enjoying travel and time together until her passing in 2025.

He was a member of the American Legion in Eaton, the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Ault, and a life member of Elks Lodge 607 in Idaho Springs.

Gerald is survived by his stepdaughter, Nancy Lindsey, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Fern; his siblings; his stepson, Thomas Dehler; and his dear companion, Wynona Sullivan.

Gerald will be remembered for his strong work ethic, dedication to his craft, and the quiet, steady way he lived his life. He will be deeply missed by those who knew him.
