Germaine Joy Adkisson

October 26, 1928April 2, 2021

We celebrate and are thankful for the life of Germaine (Gerry) Adkisson, 92, of Greeley, Colorado. She was born on October 26, 1928 in Eaton, Colorado, the oldest child of Mike and Martha (Bauer) Wolf. Germaine grew up on farms north of Greeley, Colorado and graduated from Greeley High School in 1946. Her first paid job was as a secretary for the Colorado Condensing Co. in Johnstown, Colorado. In 1947, she met Charles Adkisson on a blind date during one of his VFW basketball games. They dated on and off for two years and through Charles’ persistence, were married in Greeley on June 25, 1949. Their loving marriage endured for sixty-two years until Charles’ death in 2012. They farmed near Milliken, Colorado from 1949 through 1968. During those years, the couple’s children, Charles, Charlene, and Carol, were born and raised in a Christian home. In 1969, Charles and Germaine realized a shared dream and purchased their own farm one mile north of Eaton. When her children left for college, Germaine went back to work as church secretary for St. John’s United Church of Christ where she was an active life-long member, serving as a Women’s Fellowship leader, Sunday School teacher, and choir member.

Charles retired from farming in 1988 and they moved to a home in Greeley. They enjoyed traveling and highlights included trips to Washington D.C., San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, BC, and to both the Midwest and Southwest. Germaine was an expert at making German dishes, delicious casseroles and the lemon meringue pies that her husband loved. She enjoyed hosting extended family Christmas dinners and birthday celebrations. Germaine was an expert seamstress, beginning in her teens by winning grand champion at the country fair and continuing to create many dresses and outfits for her daughters and grandchildren. She loved to craft and was a faithful member of the extension clubs where she lived, the Ashton Progressive Club and Eaton Apron Annies.

Germaine moved to assisted living at Greeley’s Grace Pointe in 2012. On Friday, April 2, 2021, she passed away peacefully while in Hospice. Those who celebrate her life include son Charles (Annie) of Lakewood, daughters Charlene Parker of Greeley and Carol Gustafson (Greg) of Arvada; five grandchildren, Dr. Kirsten Adkisson, Dr. Marin Adkisson, Andrew Gustafson, Evan Gustafson, Julia Gustafson; and her sister, Colleen (Pete) Denzin of Greeley. She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers Richard and Bob Wolf; and infant grandson, William Gustafson.
