Gordon was born in Denver CO to Julius and Marie Tomasi and he had 3 brothers. He received his PhD in Biochemistry in Louisville, KY and then taught at UNC in Greeley for over 30 years, helping many students become nurses and doctors.
Gordon married Georgia Schwalls in 1954 and was married for 38 years before she passed away in 1992. They raised two daughters, Roxane and Teresa and 1 son, Mike. He then married Daralyn Forbes in 1995 and was married for 24 years.
Spending time with his grandchildren was the joy of his life whether it was playing games, watching activities, reading books, ice skating, bowling or being in the mountains. Gordon was known for the length of time he could spend in a bookstore and museum much to his grandchildren’s dismay.
Gordon had a passion for the mountains, hiking, camping and fishing which he shared with his wives, children and grandchildren. He was a gardener and loved growing roses. He square danced with both his wives and many of his colleagues, students and friends.
Gordon was a good cook and made the best chocolate chip, peach and strawberry ice cream, pancakes, waffles and BBQ chicken. From his Swiss roots he had a love of chocolate and from his German side a love of wine.
He loved Charles Russell paintings, John Fielder’s photography and taking pictures of his own. He enjoyed reading poetry and especially enjoyed the humor of Baxter Black. His yearly poetic newsletters and family calendars were loved by family and friends alike.
Gordon loved to travel and had been to most of the US states and parts of Canada. He and Daralyn traveled extensively in their 5th wheel with their Westies and became snowbirds spending several winters in Texas and Arizona. He and Daralyn loved their Caribbean cruise with Teresa and family. Two of his favorite trips were to Europe where he met his extended family in Germany and Switzerland.
His adventures with Daralyn and friends ranged from taking a mule trip in the Grand Canyon to exploring Montana, house boating at Lake Powel, camping in South Dakota, to having drinks on the back porch. He was game for just about anything except riding on ATV’s in Moab.
Gordon was known for his quirky sense of humor, his infectious smile, and his kind and gentle soul. He will be deeply missed by family and friends. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley, followed by a reception to celebrate a life well lived and a man well loved. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Pathways Hospice in Loveland 2000 North Boise Avenue, 3rd floor Loveland, Co 80538 or your local hospice.
