

Harlan graduated from Bancroft High School in 1948 and then entered into the United States Air Force. After his discharge he returned to Nebraska, where he met Janet Kort. They married August 25, 1956 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Greeley, Colorado.
Harlan attended Wayne State Teacher’s College and transferred to CSC (now UNC) and received his BA in Business. He taught business and was the basketball coach in Brule, Nebraska for 3 years. He then taught at Marquette, Neb. for 1 year. Then moved to Keenesburg/ Greeley where he taught business at Weld Central High School for 24 years. He received his Master’s degree in 1971 and after his retirement in 1986 he was part-time business lab supervisor at Aim’s Community College.
He loved to golf with his friends and family, fish, and play cards like pinochle, bridge, poker and cribbage. He also had several collections and was an avid University of Nebraska and Denver Broncos football fan. Above all was his love for his wife, children and grandchildren and their time together. He also enjoyed the bi-annual Sorensen Family Reunions.
Harlan is survived by his wife Janet; daughters Cindy Dennis (Bruce) of Greeley and Carol Kildow (Britt Terry) of Erie; son David Sorensen (Mary Ann Kramer) of Loveland; sisters Betty Palmer (Richard) of Livermore, California, Joan Forney (Jerry) of Sparks, Nevada and Delores Mendoya of Livermore, California; brother Harold Sorensen (Karen) of Pullman, Washington; 9 grandchildren Christopher Sorensen (Suzanne Scymanski) of Seattle, Washington, Jesse Miller of Greeley, Corben Kildow of Alamosa, Kylie Kildow of Boulder, Brittney Terry of Erie, Brooke Terry of Erie, Bruce William Dennis (Lacy) of Greeley, Jamie Dennis of Greeley, and Christopher Dennis (Jaime) of Greeley; one great grandson Ethan Dennis. He was preceded in death by four sisters Lorraine Pizziol, Helen Sorensen, Dorothy Erickson and Karen Palmer and three brothers Francis, George and Donald.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 26 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Stoddard Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 27 at 10:00 a.m. at Gloria Christi Lutheran Church 1322 31st Avenue. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
