Harold Gene Coley

Harold is predeceased by his mother, Eula Mae, his father, Luther Sherman, and his brother, Doyle Sherman Coley. He is survived by his loving wife Patsy (Pat) Coley of 58 years. They were married in Pittsburgh, Texas on January 1st, 1960. Harold is also survived by his brothers; William (Bill) Coley & wife Kathy of Whiteright, TX., and James Ball & wife Sue of Lubbock, TX.

Harold, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather is lovingly remembered by his three sons, Mark Christopher Coley, married to Karen, of Fort Collins, Colorado; Michael Craig Coley, married to Shelli, of Denver, Colorado; and Dana Paul Berg, of Denver, Colorado, and his seven grandchildren, Maddie, Dorothy (Cricket), Jenna, Tyler, McKenna, Hayden, and Keeva.

Harold was born in De Kalb, Texas, in 1937. He graduated from De Kalb High School in De Kalb, Texas and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from East Texas State University in 1960. Harold served in the US Army during the Cold War Conflict and was honorable discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1962. He worked for the US Forest service for over 30 years, retiring as the Assistant Director of the Rocky Mountain Research Station.

Harold enjoyed spending time with his family; he especially enjoyed an active role with his grandchildren. He was very active member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder, and Usher, and the barista for the coffee cart. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Rocky Mountain Mountaineers, and the Southwest Forest Service Amigos. He was an avid outdoorsman, climbing his last fourteener (Quandry) in 2011; he was also an active sportsman and bird watcher. Harold especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with his boys and grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 531 South College Avenue, at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 17th, with Corey Nelson Officiating. A reception will take place in the First Presbyterian Fellowship Hall following the memorial service.

Internment, with Military Honors, will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery at a later date.

The family would like to thank the entire medical and support staff at the UC Health Cancer Center of Fort Collins, especially Dr. Ross McFarland, for the exceptional care Harold received. In addition, the family would like to acknowledge the special love and care provided by Jen B., the charge nurse in the ICU at Poudre Valley Hospital.
