Harold was born in Chicago, IL to Stanley and Meta Stronk.
As a teenager Harold went to work for RR Donnelley & Sons, which culminated in a 40-year career at Donnelley in the many aspects of printing. Harold was especially proud of his contributions in the production of Life, Look, and National Geographic magazines, Sears catalogs, and the World Book encyclopedias. There were many stories told of his adventures on the printing press floor and Harold maintained contact with many of his colleagues and co-conspirators.
In those early Chicago years, Harold met LaVerne Souhrada, a sprite and spunky neighborhood girl. They ultimately fell in love and married in 1952 after Harold’s return from his Korean War service in the Army. This loving relationship brought forth four children.
Harold and LaVerne moved to Colorado in 1983 and then to Utah in 2005. Harold and LaVerne were lifelong partners until her passing in 2017. Shortly after LaVerne’s passing Harold returned to Colorado to be near his loving daughter Cheryl. Cheryl’s unwavering devotion to her father provided Harold joy and companionship until the end.
Harold was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved, a life better than his own. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. Harold’s extended family included lifelong friends. He always cared for, loved, and treated them as he would for his own family.
Harold was also a passionate fisherman, sports fan, storyteller, and a tinkerer who could be found in his workshop during retirement thinking of things to make. If he only could “find” that tool! Harold, even at 93, was also known for his recall of names, details, events, and for his wicked spaghetti sauce. He loved his nation and was a true and proud patriot who never left the house without his Korean War Vet hat.
Anyone who knew Harold knew that he was the most loving father and spouse a family could ask for. Harold was predeceased by his mother, Meta, his father Stanley, his sister Bernice, and his brothers, Howard, and Bob. He is survived by his children, Wayne, Bruce, Cheryl, and Jeff, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the many close and loving nieces, nephew, and their families.
Harold has requested to return to his childhood and family home, Chicago. The family is working on those details and will share those when finalized.
Harold Stanley Stronk is under the care of Stoddard Funeral Home
