Born on August 7th, 1930, Harold lived a full and hardworking life. He was married to his first wife, Beverly Mae Thompson, for 62 years before her passing on October 15th, 2013. In 2014, he married his current wife, Elizabeth Thompson, who survives him.
A celebration of Harold’s life will be held on June 19th at 11 am, at the Platte Valley Baptist Church, 22750 US Hwy 34, Fort Morgan, Colorado. He will be laid to rest at Fort Morgan Cemetery in Fort Morgan, Colorado. Flowers can be sent to the church directly.
Harold was born to Lillian Beatrice Mayhugh and Lenice Leford Thompson in Riverton, Wyoming.
After leaving school he soon began his long career as a lineman. He spent over 45 years in power line construction, including time with Sturgeon Electric and working as an independent contractor. His career took him and his wife Bev across many states in their fifth wheel, enjoying life and new adventures.
Harold has loved fishing since he was a young boy. Although there are too many fish stories to tell one of the favorites is the large catfish he caught on the lake at Tawakoni that he tethered to the dock. He went to the house to get some things and when he returned this VERY large fish had gnawed through the tether line and was never seen again. Hunting was a favorite as well. As he got older he wasn’t able to go as often, however, Rob took him hunting a few years back and Harold proudly shot his last deer at the age of 90. Another passion was working with wood, making things like stagecoach lamps and beautiful cedar jewelry boxes. The one thing that Harold will be remembered for most was his love of playing his guitar alongside his beloved Bev, who played the piano or accordion. Many may recall the years the family traveled and sang at many churches and gatherings. Harold and Bev are now reunited, and as his family lovingly says, “playing and singing with the angels.”
He is preceded in death by his daughter Dana Kay, his son Roger, and his grandchild Dustin.
Harold is survived by his children Beverly Ruth, Ric (Carol), Ray (Karen), Rob (Connie), Royce (Tammy), and Ronda (Colleen). Harold’s grandchildren meant the world to him and he enjoyed visits with them often. His many grandchildren are: Raechel, Karissa, Courtney, Candi, Carey, Harold, Christal, Jason, Daisy, Sandra, Jesse, Jarod, Derek, DJ and Brandi. He also leaves behind many great-grandchildren.
Harold enjoyed and loved his time with his siblings: Donnie, Lavon Thompson, and Linda Palmer; Lloyd, Larry (deceased), Bobby (deceased), and Richard (deceased) Mayhugh; Sherry Bradley, Bobby and Larry Guffee.
Harold was a devoted Christian who will be remembered for his dedication to Christ, his strong work ethic, kind heart, and the love he shared with everyone he met. Today he is with his Lord and Savior as well as his family and friends who have gone before him. He will be missed.
