Helen Cross

Helen Evangeline Cross, 91, of Greeley, quietly passed Monday, August 17 at Lifecare Nursing Center. She was born September 11, 1923 in St. Francis, Kansas to Edward and Lydia Schlepp. The family moved to Torrington, Wyoming where Helen met Harry Cross. They married January 3, 1943 then moved to Greeley. Helen began her career when her young son reached jr. high school age. Using her cooking skills she worked in the Greeley public school system where she enjoyed managing the school lunch program 25 plus years. She and Harry were active in the Mariner's group through the First United Presbyterian Church. Helen also served as chair for the Hospitality ministry.

Helen is survived by three daughters, Carol Cross and her husband Tony Graves of Las Vegas, Loretta Walters and her husband Bill of Turlock, CA. and Janice Cross of San Diego, CA; and a son, James Cross and his wife Marlene of Greeley; a sister, Donna Mulholland ofGrand Island, Nebr., six grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harry; a daughter, Gloria; four sisters, Dorothy Haugen, Betty Mehling, Velma West, JoAnn Nealy; two brothers, Marvin and Larry Schlepp.

Visitation will be from 12:00-1:00 p.m. with services at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 24 at Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 West 28th Street, Greeley, CO 80634. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Reception will follow the interment at 2:00 p.m. at Stoddard Funeral Home.
