

Helen Jean Schump, 93, of Greeley, passed away April 28, 2018 in Greeley. Helen was born in White City, KS on March 10, 1925 to Louis and Grace (Smalley) Granzow. She graduated from Herington High School in 1942, and went to nurses training at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City. Helen and Mike were married April 20, 1948 at the Methodist Church in Herington, KS. She worked in the doctor’s office and Mike farmed until Helen convinced him that the family’s future was in Colorado. They moved to Greeley in 1958, where they raised their family.
Helen was the head nurse in the emergency room at North Colorado Medical Center until 1975, and then worked in the recovery room until her retirement in 1985. She and Mike were fortunate enough to travel the world together. She also had a passion for her church, First United Methodist Church of Greeley, where she was a member since 1958. She was also a member of the Rebekah Circle and Sewing for Service.
Helen is survived by her sons, James (Denise) Schump of Berthoud, Roger Schump (Lori Rapp) of Greeley; brother W.D. (Delores) Granzow of Herington, Kansas; grandchildren Matt, Joe (Juliana), and Dr. Mike Schump of Fort Collins, Jody Schump of Thornton, James Jr. and Billy Schump (Elena) of Berthoud; great grandchildren Jake, Willa, Wade, Claire, and Hank Schump, all of Fort Collins; cousins and lifelong best friend Barbara Echols of Conifer.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Mike, son, David, daughter-in-law, Liz Schump; grandchildren, Richard and Janelle Schump; great granddaughter, Taylor Schump; and brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Wilma Granzow.
Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday May 5, 2018 at First United Methodist Church.
Inurnment to follow at Linn Grove Cemetery.
