Henry Hissrich III of Greeley died peacefully surrounded by family on January 22, 2021 at Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland. Henry was a survivor of a severe case of COVID in the spring of 2020 and was able to spend 6 wonderful months with family before his most recent hospital stay.
Henry was born on April 23, 1941 in Pittsburgh, PA. He is predeceased by his parents, Henry and Mary Gertrude (Garla) Hissrich and his Sister Mary Kay Dillman.
After attending Shaler High School in Pittsburgh, Henry moved to Colorado to attend Adams State University in Alamosa. He wrestled for two years at Adams State before transferring to UNC in Greeley. While at UNC, he met the love of his life, Ellen Mastin. Henry and Ellen both proceeded to become teachers and spent their entire teaching careers at Platte Valley in Kersey, CO. Henry was a K-6 Physical Education teacher and also coached wrestling for more than 15 years. Along the way, Henry and Ellen had 4 children – Heidi, Henry IV, Howard and Hunter.
Henry had a zest for life and was always on the go. When he wasn’t coaching, he was busy watching his kids play sports, golfing, fishing, hunting and whatever new adventure he could find. He worked several summers teaching swimming and also ran a painting business in the summers for over 20 years. He was always good for a joke or two and couldn’t walk into a store or restaurant in the Greeley area without someone saying “Hey coach” or “Hey Mr. Hissrich”. He was loved by many and left a legacy never to be forgotten.
Henry is survived by his beloved wife, Ellen Hissrich. His Children, Spouses, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, Heidi (Spanier) and Rich of Chester, New Jersey and their children Jessica Wismer (husband Rich and great grandchild Richie) and Henry Spanier (wife Angelique), Henry IV and Christie of Lititz, PA and their children Henry V and Mary Grace, Howard and Juliana of Fort Collins and their children Ben and Lucas, and Hunter and Kristine of Pittsburgh, PA and their daughter Gemma.
