

Irene Marie Sierra, 70, of Denver, passed away June 21, 2016. Irene was born March 12, 1946 in Pueblo, Colorado to Benjamin and Ida (Autobee) Martinez. She was raised in Greeley and then moved to Denver. She married Joe E. Sierra, June 2, 1962 in Greeley.
Irene was a housewife until Joe (Ernie) became ill in 1984. She got a job at Regency Rehab Center, where Joe was placed after his aneurysm, so that she could work and care for him at the same time. Years after Joe’s passing, she and a partner ran a Janitorial business from 1996 – 2013. They also ran firework and Christmas tree stands for many years. Irene was a very hard working, independent woman.
Everyone that knew Irene called her mom, and as some would say, she was a “Spanish Martha Stewart”, she loved cooking and baking. She also loved to do arts and crafts. She made a large variety of things, especially for birthdays and holidays. She adored her 8 Chihuahuas that she spoiled very much. Her favorite hobbies were going fishing, camping and going for walks.
Irene is survived by her children Alfred “Al” (Hope) Sierra, Joseph (Gina) Sierra, Christine (Marvin) Arellano, Jeanette (Gregory) Martinez, Louise (Richard) Esquibel and Glenda (Francisco) Huizar; siblings Rocky, Ben, Danny, Alice, Vicki and Vivian; 30 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe, one daughter Debra Jean, siblings Henry, Leo, Raymond, Luciana, Mary Anne and Tina.
Visitation 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, June 27, 2016 with Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m., both at Stoddard Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
