

Jim was raised in Greeley and graduated from Greeley High School in 1954. He started working for the downtown Safeway on May 7, 1952. He later worked in the meat department at that store. He entered the US Navy in June 1955 and had served aboard the USS Allagash. He was honorably discharged in June 1959, as a seaman.
Jim married Beverly E. Works on May 26, 1955 in Fort Morgan. She died on September 6, 2004. He and his wife loved to square dance and belonged to a square dance club, “Square-Yer-Sets”.
After his discharge, he began working for the Safeway Distribution Center in Denver, where he worked as a meat cutter until his retirement in 1992. In 1993, he moved back to Greeley.
Jim enjoyed their horses and helped his daughter with her activities in the Westernaires. He enjoyed taking care of his pickup and waxed it quite often. He loved animals, especially his cat, “QT”. He had lived at Sterling House since last August.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Shari Speer of Greeley; sister, Patricia Etter (Vernon) of Greeley; one nephew, Stephen Etter (Leal) of Greeley; two nieces, Paula Schneider (Ward) of Fort Collins and Nancy Lake (Tom) of Thornton and two great-nieces, Amanda and Sunshine.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Visitation will be 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2014 followed by Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. both at Stoddard Funeral Home. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
