Born on March 6, 1919 to William Grover Hutcheson and Nancy Jannie Reece Hutcheson on a farm northeast of Eaton, Colorado, he attended Eaton schools and graduated from Eaton High School in 1937. Bill excelled at farming; first with his father and later on his own farm in the Ault area.
Bessie Lucille Spelts Shively, whom he married on February 14, 1946, was his partner in farming until she passed on July 12, 1995. She had one daughter, Lois Shively Erichson, who became Bill’s step-daughter. Bill loved farming, as was exhibited by his state-of-the-art farm and the fact that he was nearly always one of the 10 highest producers of beet sugar in his area. He accumulated more “high 10” awards than any other farmer in Colorado. He remained interested and involved with his farm until the day of his passing even though, in later years, the actual labor of raising the crops was entrusted to a renter.
On July 25, 1998, Bill married Ruby Estergard and moved with her to their home in Greeley. Although Bill was devoted to his farm, he also enjoyed fishing and the occasional card game with his buddies. Ruby preceded Bill in death on June 12, 2012.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clarance, Carl and Don, one sister, Sally Hutcheson Fisher, his step-daughter, Lois and two step-grandchildren, Tammy Erichson and Harry Erichson.
The survivors of Bill include his sister, Lura Elnora Hutcheson Hager of Greeley, two step-grandchildren, Dale Erichson of Greeley and Pam Erichson Gzehoviak of Kennesaw, Georgia and several nieces, nephews and step-great-grandchidren.
Services for Mr. Hutcheson will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Stoddard Funeral Home. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 5, 2018 at Eaton Cemetery.
