She was raised in the country, with her younger sister, Dorothy, on her dad’s homestead and attended a one room schoolhouse for the first through eighth grades. Jean graduated from Columbus High School in 1946 and Kinman Business University in Spokane, WA in 1947. She also attended St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota. On October 21, 1951 she married William (Bill) G. Koch at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Columbus, Montana. When Bill passed in May 2018, they had been married over 66 years.
Jean and Bill were members of St. Peter Catholic church starting in 1954, when they moved to Greeley. For decades, she was active volunteering in the office and singing in the choir. She also volunteered at Greeley Catholic School, where their children attended, and she worked at the UNC bookstore during the busy start of the school years.
Jean and Bill raised their four children, Nicholas, Gregory, Stephen and Carol, in Greeley. With four children, Jean was busy as a mother and homemaker, often cooking and baking. She enjoyed attending their school and church activities and sporting events and later their grandchildren’s activities. She loved her children and grandchildren each unconditionally.
