John Zimmer, 89, of Greeley, Colorado, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025. Born November 10, 1935, in New Hampton, Iowa, John was the cherished son of the late Euphemia and Theodore Zimmer. He married his wife, Marlys Gebel, on February 21, 1962—the beginning of a devoted partnership that spanned over six decades.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, John returned home to farm in Iowa before embarking on a successful 25-year career as a machinist at Hewlett-Packard. After retirement, he could often be found by the water, fishing rod in hand, or in his workshop, turning pieces of wood into treasured creations for family and friends. John was always ready to share a fish fry and a story—he had a gift for connecting with everyone he met.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Marlys, sons Kevin (Lindsey) Zimmer and Joseph (Lori) Zimmer, grandsons Theodore (Miranda) Zimmer and Kaloub Zimmer, great-grandsons Logan and Teaghan Zimmer, bonus son and granddaughter Clifford (Buddy) Yant and Samantha Stegner.
John will be laid to rest at a future date in St. Mary’s Cemetery in his hometown of New Hampton, Iowa.
