Jose Roman Gaona Jr.

July 2, 1956January 24, 2020

Jose “Joe” Roman Gaona, age 63, passed away on January 24, 2020 at his home. He was the husband to Rita Gaona. They shared 46 years together and have 12 children, 30 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

Joe was born in Morehead, Minnesota. He was the son of Jose and Irene Gaona. He received his mechanical engineering certification at AIMS Community College in Greeley, Colorado. He owned his own business in Galeton, Colorado for 12 years, then went to work for Flogistix as a Field Tech for 7 years.

Joe was a loving, kind, thoughtful, respectful, forgiving, and funny kind of man. He always had to make us laugh - even if his jokes were bad, he still would tell it every time laughing, thinking it was so funny. Dad loved his kids and grandkids and did everything with them as a group; from grocery shopping to fishing, camping, traveling or just hanging out. He was also a big Dallas Cowboy fan. Every weekend when he wasn’t working he would take us all out for breakfast or make us breakfast at home. He loved listening to music, dancing, telling stories; he would even pick up the phone and call us to tell us a new story, even if we were at work. He told us family comes first, family helps family, but most of all family stands together, and he showed us just that.

You would find Dad (Grandpa Joe) at every basketball, football, softball, volleyball, and wrestling games cheering his kids and grandkids on. He would always be so proud and talk about each one and how they did so well.

He was the guy who would help everyone out and even if it was his last $10, if you needed the money it was yours, no matter who you were. He would laugh with you, listen to you, or give you advice. He made an impact on all of our hearts, and he will be greatly missed by all.

Joe is survived by his children; Darlene (Martin) Salazar, Denise Gutierrez, Trisha Gaona, Adolfo Gaona, Guadalupe (Erika) Gaona, Joey (Nina) Gaona, Joaquin Gaona, Richard (Brittany) Gaona, Gabriel (Tommie) Gaona, Delphino (Roxy) Gaona, Jacqueline (Nick) Gaona, and Ashley Gaona; his siblings; Joaquin Gaona, Richard (Sandra) Gaona, Adolfo (Carmen) Gaona, and Lupe Goana, as well as 30 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Jose Z. and Irene Gaona, and two grandsons; Jose "JoJo" Gaona, and Manny Salazar.

I have many great memories of Tio, but the one always come to mind is when the family met Joe my boyfriend at the time. Tio Joe has a crazy idea and this is how I will know if Joe wanted kids. At the time we lived in Maryland and we were going to the beach with the family. The adults in one van and the kids in the other van. Joe was driving and I was in the passenger seat. We stop for a break and then it happen. As Joe was counting the kids get onto the van we lost one. Joe was going crazy looking and looking. He was worried that Tio will never again trust him with his kids and won’t approve of us getting married. After 20 minutes we finally found my little cousin in with adults in the van. 25 years later and I still laugh. Joe now my husband is glad that we found my cousin. He loves children but not 12 of them. 😀😃😁

Our condolences on your loss. Bill, Nancy and Lisa Bennett certainly have a lot of fond memories of visiting with Joe and other family members when you lived along 74 between 47 and 49 and later at events Pattie Jones hosted. Good memories last forever.

When my children were young, they played elementary sports with Adolfo, Lupe, and Joey. I always remember Mr. Gaona sitting on the grass near the field, encouraging his children, while the younger ones sat in his lap or tumbled around him happily. I didn’t know him well, but it was obvious that he loved his children and was very proud of each of them. My sincere sympathy, I’m certain he will be greatly missed.

You will be missed Mr. Gaona! I spent my years growing up as a part of your family; your home was my home! I have never felt more part of a family as I did yours, I suddenly had more brothers and sisters in the blink of an eye! Great family, food and great stories are what fill my memories! A hard working man you were, you saved many peoples nightmares with fixing their cars; and how proud you should be that you taught your boys the trade too! Twelve kids would overwhelm anyone; however, you and Rita accommodated each one with grace! You provided for all of your family, and most of all by keeping them together and you in the lead! What a beautiful gift you provided many, and that was by the goodness you provided in every moment! There wasn’t a day you didn’t give me shit the moment I saw you (and multiply that, as the boys followed close behind you 😉), but there wasn’t a better feeling! Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your family and memories, I love your family dearly and will do my best to stay connected to them and offer full support and love always! ❤️
You started and led the most powerful thing, family! You guided them through the Lords faith and teachings and you supported them with love and laughter!
I only got to reunite with you about a month ago and in a time I know you wanted to be private; I thank God every day that he brought us together that day, as I wouldn’t have seen you otherwise! You are a special man and I feel so blessed to have been a part of your life, thank you for your blessings and thank you for giving me an extended family to love! Rest In Peace and watch over us, you are an angel in every chapter of life and eternal life! Love you Joe!

I will miss everything about you Joe. Your respect for others and your deep love for your family was evident in everything you did. I so enjoyed our talks at Steve's after everyone else was gone. I wish I had the opportunity to serve you one more beer and get one last hug. You will be missed my friend but never forgotten.

We all loved Joe and he was a really great friend to my son Jon. Joe and Jon worked together at Rogers Chevrolet in Eaton. They rode motorcycles together. Jon loved eating at Joe and Rita's house. I remember the time that Joe moved Lori's car and Jon thought it was stolen and called the police. It was meant to be a joke and, as it turned out, it really was and everyone had a great laugh - not the police. Joe will be so very missed and I know that he now resides in Heaven where he is free of pain and full of happiness. RIP Joe!!
