Juan Maria Lobato passed away peacefully September 9, 2021 at The Center at Centerplace. Juan was born on March 28, 1926 in French, New Mexico. He grew up in Romeroville, and Las Vegas, New Mexico.

Juan moved to northern Colorado in 1942 where he met Lucy C. Chavez. Juan and Lucy were married at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church on July 8, 1946, and were married 64 years. Juan never stopped missing Lucy.

Juan was a loving husband, a great father, grandfather, favorite uncle, and everybody’s friend. If you had the chance to meet Juan, you met a great man.

Juan and Lucy owned Juan’s Crane Service until he retired in 1991. He had the pleasure of helping construct many buildings and homes in northern Colorado.

One of Juan’s favorite passions was gardening. His home always had a garden full of tomatoes and peppers. When he was in assisted living, he gardened at Houston Community Gardens where he quickly became a celebrity. He was an amazing cook and knew how to keep his children coming home for his special cuisine.

During Juan’s life, he was an avid baseball player, hunter, fisherman, and do it yourselfer.

Juan and Lucy traveled extensively in their motorhome, meeting friends and creating memories.

Juan is survived by his daughter, Diana and David Cruz of Greeley; son, John and Jenny Lobato of Greeley, Jerry and Vickie Lobato of Thornton, Toby Lobato of Greeley, James and Shirley Lobato of Greeley, and Phillip and Debbie Lobato of Parker; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lucy C. Lobato; and infant daughter Mary Louise.

Our prayers and thoughts are with you during this time. I have very fond memories of Uncle Johnny. Our family spent our summers in Colorado and we spent time with Uncle Johnny and Aunt Lucy at their home or at my Grandma's house. I am happy that I was able to visit a few years ago and stay with him at his home with my son. He was an excellent cook and had a green thumb. We will miss you Uncle Johnny.
