She was born March 30, 1942 in Balamban (Cebu, Philippines) to Juan Lucero and Arsenia "Yray" Lucero. Juanita grew up in Cebu and took courses in Culinary Arts. She married Vicente Alfante on January 31, 1959 and together they raised 6 children (Emigdio, Eduardo, Vicente Jr. "Jun", Elena, Eva Rhea, and Jasmine), along with 4 cherished nieces (Floriza, Evelyn, Cynthia, and Celia), who they raised as their own after her sisters, Milagros and Felicitas, had passed.
