Karen Fay (Sparks) Herrera, 55, of Ault, passed away March 18, 2014 at Porter Hospital in Denver, Colorado. She was surrounded by her loving family as she entered into Heaven. Karen was born as a twin on October 4, 1958 in Lamar, Colorado to Leonard and Helen (Ward) Sparks.
Karen grew up in Kersey, Colorado and graduated from Platte Valley High School in 1978. She loved all animals, especially horses and she enjoyed growing up in the country. In 1979, she married her high school sweetheart, Teddy Herrera. Together, they grew in their personal relationship with the Lord and built a beautiful life together, always putting others before themselves.
Karen had a very warm, gentle, loving, caring spirit that always saw the best in people and situations. She enjoyed working with the elderly and with special needs people. She loved to dance, laugh, listen to country music, spend time in the mountains, and be with her family. Her most prized treasures were her children and grandchildren. She was known as “Mas” and Masie” to her grandchildren and was a wonderful example of a Grandmother to them. She always showed them unconditional love and kindness, showered them with hugs and “kisses forever”, and always tried to make every special event, birthday party, or sports game they each had.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Ted Herrera of Ault; two children her son James Herrera and wife Kacie of Evans, her daughter Kayla Clark and husband Shawn of Greeley; her mother Helen Sparks of Greeley; her father-in-law Manuel Herrera of Ault; 5 grandchildren Tatum and Zaben Herrera, Noah, Alina and Kaleb Clark; sisters Carolyn (Bill) Fuqua of Arizona, twin sister Sharon (Monte) Behrens of Evans and Jeanie Gay of Texas; brothers Bill (Jody) Sparks of Greeley and Troy Sparks of Kersey.
Memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m., Monday, March 24, 2014 at Stoddard Funeral Home.
