Karolynn May (Martin) Hansell, 56, died Saturday, April 10, 2010 at her home in Loveland. She was born on October 3, 1953 in Greeley, to Raymond D. and Frances S. (Ewing) Martin.
She married Larry Hansell in 1979, they later divorced.
Karolynn grew up in Gilcrest and attended school in the RE-1 school district. She graduated from Valley High School in 1971. During high school, she played the flute and was a member of Valley High School Band and the Valley Marching Band. She attended Colorado State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Consumer and Family Studies. After graduating, she taught in Paonia, Colorado, she then started teaching in the St. Vrain Valley School District where she remained until her death. She received her Master of Arts Degree, from Lesley University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 2003.
She was a member and was baptized at the LaSalle Presbyterian Church. She was a member of St. Vrain Valley Education Association, which is part of CEA and NEA.
Karolynn enjoyed attending the Stock Show and was an avid Broncos fan. While she was growing up she was very involved in 4-H with food and clothing competitions. She was an excellent seamstress. She loved attending rodeos at the Greeley Independence Stampede and Cheyenne Frontier Days, and also enjoyed attending the concerts each year. She had most recently taken her dog Crystal to training classes, and was especially fond of her. She also loved to travel.
She is survived by her son SSgt Jaffery Hansell of Fort Hood, Texas; mother Frances Schipper of Greeley; sister Marilynn Kay Martin of Fort Collins; step sister Linda Overby (Philip) of Mellette, South Dakota; brother Russell Raymond Martin (Cheryl) of LaSalle; step-brother Tom Schipper of Fort Collins, granddaughter Alyssa Marie Hansell of Fort Hood; 2 nieces Kristyn Martin of Evans and Tanya Martin of LaSalle; Also numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father Raymond Martin and step-father Arthur “Skip” Schipper.
Visitation 4-7 p.m. Friday at Stoddard Funeral Home. Funeral Service 10:00 a.m. Saturday at La Salle Presbyterian Church. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
