Katie grew up in Romania and came to the USA from Austria in 1952. Her family settled in Windsor, Colorado; they were sponsored by the Stromberger family and repaid their passage by working on the Stromberger Family Farm.
Katie met Arthur Grieb, who had also come to the US in 1952. Their respective families sailed on the same ship, the USNS “General C.C. Ballour” from Bremerhaven on March 31st. Katie and her grandmother were delayed due to illness and sailed 10 days later on April 10th on the USNS “General M.B. Stewart”. Katie and Arthur met in Windsor, and on April 26, 1953, were married. Arthur died on January 24, 2016.
Katie and Arthur were very active members of St. John’s United Church of Christ. They were also very active members of T.E.V. Edelweiss. Katie worked at UNC for many years.
Katie was an amazing cook and enjoyed traveling and seeing new places. She especially enjoyed her trip with her husband to their homes in Romania. Her passions included gardening and growing flowers. She adored her grandchildren and family time was so important and enjoyable for her.
Katie is survived by her daughter, Rosemary Paddock (Homer) of Commerce City; son, Roland Grieb (Joseph “Jody”) of Folsom, Louisiana; brothers, Michael Prall (Brigitte) and John Prall both of Greeley and grandchildren, Lindsay Marie Hoppe (Kevin) of London, England and Delena Katharina “Katie” Grieb of Folsom, Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Visitation will be from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 1, 2018 followed by Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. both at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 3815 West 20th Street, Greeley. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
