Parable of Immortality

I am standing by the seashore. 
A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze 
and starts for the blue ocean.
She is an object of beauty and strength,
and I stand and watch 
until at last she hangs like a peck of white cloud 
just where the sun and sky come down to mingle with each other. 
Then someone at my side says, 'There she goes! 
Gone where? Gone from my sight - that is all. 
She is just as large in mast and hull and spar 
as she was when she left my side 
and just as able to bear her load of living freight 
to the places of destination.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her. 
And just at the moment when someone at my side says,
'There she goes! ' ,
there are other eyes watching her coming, 
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout :
'Here she comes!'
Does this sound like Kim?  I think so.

I met Kim just last April, but she was instantly someone I felt I had known a very long time. She touched my life in a special way and will not be forgotten.

I was honored to be Kim's friend. Our family spent many wonderful times with Kim and Tim. Fondly referred to as Aunt Kim and Uncle Tim. We will miss her terribly. I'm grateful to know she is in Heaven with my mother who lost her battle with colon cancer a year ago. We love you Tim and we look forward to continued laugher and fun. Dear Tim,
Bob and I are so lucky to have met you and Kim.  We became such good friends in the couple of years that you lived here in Steamboat.  We will always cherish our fun times together camping, playing poker, playing golf, hauling a bunch of liquor to the hut and meeting for happy hour at the Rio.  We will miss Kim dearly, her wonderful smile and welcoming heart.  We asked Dizzy to find her in heaven, so she'll have a great companion. Our thoughts are with you, Kim's mother and brother.

I had the pleasure of working with Kim at Citi and always appreciated her unconditional support and passion toward building a great business model with her keen insight for effective marketing and supporting her colleagues professionally and personally. With Kim's recent health challenges, she still reached out to support my endeavors and I am most grateful for her kindness. Kim had such a great passion for life and business, and I am blessed to have known her. My condolences to Tim and Kim's mother, brother and friends. Her spirit truly lives on!

I remember Kim from my days at The Ranch at Steamboat. She was always smiling and a wonderful owner. I didn't know her well, but wanted to express my sympathy to Tim and her family.

Tim-Steve and I are so sorry for your loss. We are so sorry that we were not able to spend more time with you and Kim, but cherish the times we had together. We will always remember her sweet smile and her strong will to keep going. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

As neighbors we have known you and Kim for a number of years.  It was our pleasure in having the opportunity of being friends with Kim.  We will especialy remimber Kim with her interest in our two dogs Casey and Khari, and wanting to learn and be involved in our organization HABIC (Human Animal Bond in Colorado). Oh my gosh, we can't believe Kim has passed on to meet The Lord!  We extend our heartfelt sympathy to you and Kim's family.  We cherish our many fond memories of times with both of you.  Please find comfort knowing that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Tim,
Many times during Kim's illness I read a poem by John O'Donohue (an Irish poet and philosopher), as though I was saying/praying it to her, and I would like to share it with you now...  It is called ""Beannacht"" (Irish word for blessing)...
On the day when the weight deadens on your shoulders and you stumble, may the clay dance to balance you.  And when your eyes freeze behind the grey window and the ghost of loss gets in to you, may a flock of colors, indigo, red, green, and azure blue come to awaken in you a meadow of delight.  When the canvas frays in the currach of thought and a stain of ocean blackens beneath you, may there come across the waters a path of yellow moonlight to bring you safely home.  May the nourishment of the earth be yours, may the clarity of light be yours, may the fluency of the ocean be yours, may the protection of the ancestors be yours.  And so, may a slow wind work these words of love around you, an invisible cloak to mind your life.

Tim -- so sorry to hear of your loss.  Tho I never had the pleasure of knowing Kim, I know she was a wonderful person and the light of your life.  I hope that you can find comfort in all of your fond memories of your special times together.  Take good care and know that if there is anything I can do, you need only say the word.

Kim and I had been friends since kindergarten!  So many fun memories, sleep overs, slumber parties, our parents sending us on a trip alone to Phoenix when we graaduated high school (we felt so grown up!  She was a beautiful bridesmaid in my wedding! We Picked up where we left off after not seeing each other for several years.  I'm so grateful to God for knowing her and her mom, dad and brother.  I loved her very much and I am praying daily for God to comfort Tim, her wonderful husband, Mrs. Grunwald, Gary and Rita.

When I think about Kim, I think about all that is good in this world. She was a remarkably kind soul, was never judgmental and never spoke an un-kind word. I will remember her as someone who was a good listener and always seemed to say the right thing. I will remember her intelligence, her wit and her smile.  I will remember how she could smack to daylights out of a golf ball. The world was a better place with Kim but we now have to continue on to make it a better place.  Live life to its fullest and be kind to everyone you meet.

I read of a man who stood to speak 
At the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone, 
From the beginning..to the end.
He noted that first came her date of birth
And he spoke the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years.
1956-2010
For the dash represents all the time
That she spent alive on earth..
And now only those who loved her,
Know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we own;
The cars...the house...the cash,
What matters most is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.
Kim's ""dash"" was far too short; however it overflowed with love, thoughtfullness, compassion, and concern for others.  She was always busy; loved the outdoors and traveling. She never failed to call her Mom every day regardless of where she was. She waged a courageous battle with a devastating disease; keeping a good attitude and her sense of humor.  The day after Gary arrived in Ft. Collins, I went to meet him.  Before leaving I spoke to Kim, telling her I met Gary and how nice he was...she said, ""I know"". I said it must run in the family and she smiled and said ""it does"".  Our condolences to Tim & Kim's family. We are all glad to have been a part of Kim's Dash.

Brian and I just heard about Kim's passing.  We got to know Kim when they lived here in Maryland and what I will remember most is how Kim and Tim lived life to the hilt. 
We are so sorry to hear of your loss and know this is a difficult time.  I can only hope that warm memories of your life together lift you up during this dark time.

Tim, Greg and I share your pain in the loss of our Sweety.  I?'ll always remember the road trips when we were in Maryland and to Mesquite, the nights at the Rio, our time in Mexico, listening to Jazz in Fells Point, eating crabs, playing golf, and the times she and I went out for Chinese food.   We shared an extraordinary life with her.  Please know that Sweety will always be in our hearts and minds and if there is anything myself or Greg can do to ease your pain, we?'ll be here for you.

Life is so precious and each day we are here is a blessing. There never is a time that we are ready to lose a loved one. What a terrible loss.  I knew Kim for such a short time here in Steamboat Springs when she worked with me on SCORE counseling projects.  I so enjoyed her company and her incredible talent and insights.  My sincere condolences to the family.

I have been extremely fortunate to know Kim and Tim my entire life. I built such a strong bond with Kim and will cherish the great memories we shared together forever. From golf courses to ski slopes, and beaches to lakes, I will always remember the fun we have had. She inspired me everyday to reach my goals even when they seemed intangible. Though her presence will be truly missed, her spirit lives on within us all. I love you Kim!

Tim and family, on behalf of Team Survivor of Northern Colorado, please accept our sincere condolences.  Kim was such fun and so enthusiastic about our group.  She was the very first member I met with in April of 2009 and we've grown so much since then, thanks to Kim's enthusiasm and hard work.  She was a great, great lady.  I am fortunate to have met her.  Please know our thoughts are with you and your family.

She was an amazing lady and I feel lucky of the times I got to spend with her and Tim.  My most memorable being Christmas at Steamboat with them a couple years ago.  My condolences to Tim and her family.  She was loved and her memory and spirit will live on in all that knew her.

My husband Paul and I only met Kim and Tim a few months ago, when we were staying with our good friends Gail and Matt Nemmers for Christmas and New Year.  We spent a couple of evenings with Kim and Tim, and were struck by Kim's positive energies and attitude, and her calmness in the face of what must have been an incredibly difficult and frightening time for her.  We liked Kim, and Tim, very much, and enjoyed the time we spent together. We are saddened to hear that she has passed away, and extend our condolences to Tim and the rest of Kim's family and friends at this saddest of times.  We sincerly hope that the pain of losing Kim will soon turn to wonderful, positive and loving memories, and the pain will ease.
We will light a candle for Kim's beautiful spirit and send her a loving thought.

I grew up with Tim and only met Kim a few years ago, from the brief time we spent with her I knew she was very passionate about what she did...I noticed she worked with SCORE as do I, I know she will be missed, our prayers are with Kim and Tim.

Our hearts go out to Tim knowing the great loss he is suffering with Kim's passing. Kim was a very special lady and will be missed by all who knew her. I am so happy that I was able to visit with her and Tim on my last visit to Ft. Collins for lunch at Collindale.

I will always remember Kim for her professionalism, encouragement and help in my career development.  I am a better person for having known her. My sincere condolences to the family.

We have many fond memories of fun times with Tim and Kim. Often enjoying the great stories of their travels around the world. Kim maintained a positive attitude throughout her illness and we have great respect for her. She will be missed but will live always in our hearts.

Kim I will miss your sweet smile and your soft gentle personality.  I have so many fond memories of you.  Thank you for everything you did for me and for the support during difficult times.  We will all miss you immensely.
