OBITUARY

Lanora Comer

July 27, 1931October 9, 2021

Lanora Comer, age 90 passed away peacefully at her home on October 9, 2021.

She was born in Dallas, Texas, one of six children born to Maggie Lee and David Hudson Rushing. Two of her siblings died at very young ages.

Lanora is preceded in death by Robert Edward Comer, her husband of 51 years, her parents and brothers Roy, Norman and Robert. She is the last member of that generation of Rushings.

She is survived by six children, Leann, Glen, Nell, Linda Sue, Rhonnie and Julie; 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Lanora and Robert started a thermoforming business in their garage that blossomed into a successful business in Greeley, Colorado. The business was sold in 2003. They were devoted financial supporters of missionaries, their church and other Christian endeavors. Lanora continued this practice after Robert’s passing. She would also volunteer at the county jail to counsel and help female inmates.

Lanora loved Jesus, her Bible, church, sharing God’s Word and old hymns. She sang alto and was known to burst into song in the car with you whether you liked it or not. She delighted in lemony desserts, a nice glass of wine, the occasional margarita and pretty clothes. She loved the Colorado mountains and liked to stick her bare feet into a cold mountain stream. She liked to camp. In her more youthful days, she skied with family and also had her share of sled rides that ended in spectacular wipe outs. When Lanora was 72 she went sky diving.

Browsing through her many old pictures and digitally converted photographic slides brought her fond memories.

There was a time in our family when she was known as the burner of morning toast. That said, however, she did make a mean Spam casserole in her day.

Her favorite flower was a lily.

Lanora will be missed.

Aunt Lanora will be sorely missed this side of Heaven! Growing up my I remember when she and her family would come into town we would always go to Six Flags and then go out to eat @ El Fenix, (and one of my cousins would ask for ketchup😛) When we went to Colorado to visit them I mostly remember the year I came home with one of their puppies, Shasta, (who was 1/2 collie1/2 wolf. ) Lanora was a great friend to my Mom, Lady Jane, after my Dad died.. they went on all kinds of trips and adventures together and I so appreciated all she did with my Mom! But the memory that stands out among the rest was when our 2 families tent camped on Mustang Island together… it was amazing and crazy annoying at the same time( sand everywhere & in everything!) I hope I can be that Aunt that you love it when she comes in town like Lanora was.. ❤️

I always enjoyed visiting with Lanora when she, Aunt Rene and I would get together. She was quite the lady and will be missed.

I met Lanora at church (Front Range Baptist) and was so impressed with her sweet testimony for the Lord. It was always a joy to see her sitting in the front of the church, worshipping with a smile. She was always glad when her grandson could attend with her. I was singing in the choir during the time she was able to attend, and was always uplifted when I saw her.
I know she is singing and rejoicing being in heaven with her Lord.

Heavens bliss has increased with the passing of Lanora! She was a VERY special lady in my life. When Connie and I first went to Grace Baptist her and Bob invited us in to their home. They were solid in their faith and were a cornerstone in the church. When we eventually left Grace, Lanora said "find a church that always preaches the Blood OF Christ." I will miss you Lanora until we meet again.

Love,
Jim Baca

My wife and I remember Lenora accompanying us on a 10- day trip to Israel along with Joan Cheshire several years ago. What a wonderful time we had with her on our team. She was such an awesome traveling companion. I know she is enjoying the wonders of heaven with Bob and other family and friends, Joan Cheshire specifically, that welcomed her there.
