Laurie Ann Allex
August 26, 1958 – October 8, 2020
We’ve lost a beloved mother and wife, Laurie Ann Allex, at age 62, passing away peacefully in the early hours of Thursday, October 8, 2020, surrounded by her children, Alli Showalter, and Charlie Kluko. Laurie is survived by husband Michael, two sisters Shaunna Taylor and Ira Miller, her two children, and two sweet granddaughters – Scarlett Grace (6) and Amelia Nicole Showalter (4). She was born and raised in Moab, UT and attended Utah State University, graduating in 1980 with a B.A. in Early Childhood Education.
Laurie devoted her life to early childhood education, serving children and families for 40 years. She was a center director for childcare centers throughout her career, most recently the local Greeley Headstart program, Dos Rios. Compassionate and patient, she was considered a mentor by many who worked with her. Several times she opened her home to underprivileged children who were enduring family troubles.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, wife, mentor, and friend to many, while also having a great sense of humor. She was a wonderful cook and loved baking treats with her grandchildren for the holidays. A fan of true crime, she rarely missed an opportunity to follow police and emergency vehicles that came through her neighborhood and loved a good car chase on T.V. Everything she did, she did with her full heart, and that love has seeped into her children and grandchildren. Her granddaughter, Amelia, pointed out recently that, “Grammy will be in our hearts forever and ever."
The family is arranging a small remembrance for Laurie in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions are made to the girls’ 529 college funds (ugift529.com - codes 449-F4J and A07-Q1C).

My favorite memory (of many, many favorites) is when you found out about your first granddaughter! I’ll never forget how excited you were. I couldn’t get us moved back quick enough! I’ll love you forever and will miss you until we are together again forever.

A wonderful roommate at Utah State University, never ending fun and laughter with Laurie. She used to make me giggle with her talking on her CB radio while we were toodling down the the road to Idaho to go dancing! You really were the life of the party and the world is a little less fun without you and your sparkle. I cherish my memories of you...
