Lawrence Howard Finn, Sr., 87, of Greeley died Saturday, November 6, 2010 at North Colorado Medical Center. He was born May 13, 1923 in Baltimore, Maryland to Herbert and Lydia (Mueller) Finn. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a mechanical engineering degree.
Lawrence served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was in a company following General George Patton’s troops through France towards Germany. He was promoted to staff sergeant and trained nine men to fight in during the Battle of the Bulge. After his discharge in 1946 he returned home with two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star for saving another soldier.
Lawrence married Dorothy Hart on June 12, 1948 in Baltimore. They moved to Greeley in 1967 where he owned and operated L.H. Finn and Associates and Solar Energy Products. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid Bronco’s fan. He loved skiing and skied into his 80’s. One of his greatest accomplishments was fulfilling his dream of building his own log cabin in Red Stone Canyon.
He is survived by his daughters Karen M. Finn of Greeley and Patricia Roberts (Dale) of Loveland; sister Ruth Prince-Gannett of Redding, California; four grandchildren Heath Stein (Michelle), Jennifer Rogers (Brett), Matthew Roberts (Meghan) and Angela Vuolo; 9 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy H. Finn; 3 sons, Lawrence H. Finn, Jr., Brian Scott Finn and Michael R. Finn; and 3 brothers.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 1 – 4 p.m. at Stoddard Funeral Home. Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. There will be a viewing prior to the Liturgy at St. Mary's from 9:00-10:00.
