Leona Geisick

July 8, 1928May 3, 2021

Leona Geisick, 92, of Greeley passed away Monday, May 3, 2021. She was born in Windsor, Colorado on July 8, 1928, to George and Sarah (Strecker) Lenhart. She attended several rural schools in the Windsor, Johnstown, and Platteville areas, oftentimes being the only girl in the school. She graduated 75 years ago from Kersey High School in May of 1946. Leona married Manuel Geisick in Greeley on June 10, 1951. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary before Manuel’s passing in 2001. Leona was a full-time farm wife and mother. She grew up on farms and continued working beside Manuel on their family farm. Watching her work in the fields during the day and then have a hot meal on the table are loving memories of her farm life dedication. Leona was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ and was very active in the Women’s Fellowship group, teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. She volunteered for many church activities and always made the best angel food cakes for the annual bake sale. She was a member of the Evening Belles home extension club and an active participant in the Platte Valley Band Boosters. Leona and Manuel loved spending time camping and fishing in the Colorado mountains. Some of their grandchildren’s favorite memories are of playing cards and doing word searches with Grandma Leona in the camper.

Leona was an avid bowler in her younger years, a county fair award-winning candy maker, and an excellent cook. She always had sweets and treats in her home to share with the grandkids. She loved reading and logged well over 2000 books on her e-reader.

The greatest source of joy for Leona came from spending time with her family. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandkids. She never forgot a date, birthday, or anniversary. She was always very generous with cards and gifts, even for grandchildren in California, some of whom she had not had the opportunity to meet.

Leona is survived by her son Randy (Dottie) Geisick; daughter Karen (Gary) Gentle and brother Leroy Lenhart. She has two grandchildren; Greg (Eulia) Gentle and Rebecca (Scott) Dolezal, two step-granddaughters; Kris (Paul) Vine and Jenny (Jason) Sibbring; three great-granddaughters; Leannan, Faye, and Autumm, and three great-grandsons; Robbie, Stuart, and Nicholas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Manuel; her parents; sister Betty Scheidt and brother Bob Lenhart.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at 2:00 P.M. at St. John’s United Church of Christ 3815 W 20th Street, Greeley, Colorado. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 1:00 until the time the service begins. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens immediately following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ for the Leona Geisick Memorial in the care of Allnutt Funeral Service, Macy Chapel, 6521 W 20th Street, Greeley, CO 80634.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mother passing. I remember both your parents when they farmed my grandfather Fred Plumb's farm east of Greeley. I know he had the highest regards for both your Mom and Dad. I use to go out to the farm with my Grandfather Fred and he would teach me how to tell what was growing by looking at the field.
