Lon spent his early life in LaSalle, Colorado, working on tractors and farm equipment. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and had a lifelong passion for working on anything with a motor. A proud graduate of Valley High School in Gilcrest, Class of 1978, Lon enlisted in the United States Army that same year, serving honorably as a tank mechanic until 1983. He married Jan on August 20, 1983, and together they welcomed their daughter, Tiffany, in 1988.
Lon dedicated his career to Ford Motor Company as a highly skilled mechanic, ultimately earning the title of Senior Master Technician. He received numerous awards throughout his career for his exceptional knowledge and skill in automotive repair. Toward the end of his career, he also served as Shop Foreman, mentoring younger Technicians and upholding a high standard of quality and care. Known for his fairness and honesty, Lon built lasting trust with both his customers and coworkers. His quick wit and signature sense of humor brought joy to all who knew him.
One of Lon’s proudest accomplishments was seeing his daughter, Tiffany, graduate summa cum laude, a testament to the values of hard work and perseverance he instilled in his family.
Beyond his professional life, Lon was a celebrated chili chef, having won the local chili cook-off multiple times—a reflection of the warmth and spirit he shared in all areas of his life.
