Lorraine E Overbeck

Lorraine E. Overbeck, 83, of Greeley, passed away May 17, 2012, surrounded by family, at the home of Duane and Shey Overbeck. She was born August 9, 1928, in Beatrice, Nebraska to Carl and Mary (Mahloch) Papke.

Lorraine grew up near Cortland, Nebraska. After graduating from Beatrice High School in 1945, she worked as a legal secretary in Lincoln, Nebraska.

She met Leon Overbeck at a dance in Lincoln after he returned from military service in WWII. They were married April 6, 1947 in Firth, Nebraska and lived in Lincoln until May 1963, when Leon was transferred to the State Farm Regional Office in Greeley. Lorraine worked as the secretary at Gloria Christi Lutheran Church for several years, and then started working at State Farm in 1980, retiring in 1994.

Lorraine was a member and devoted volunteer at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, serving on the altar guild, teaching Sunday school, and holding the post of secretary for Women of ELCA. She also volunteered as secretary for Habitat for Humanity.

Lorraine loved tending to her flower gardens, watching birds and playing cards. Above all she cherished her family, and took delight in spending time with her grandchildren.

Lorraine is survived by her children Lori Overbeck and Duane Overbeck (Shey) of Greeley; Russell Overbeck (Shannon) of Concord, CA; daughter-in-law Rita Overbeck of Carbondale; sister Vergene Vandergriend and brother Dale Papke (Phyllis) of Nebraska; grandchildren Russell (Zeltzin), Mari, Heidi (Mike Landis), Sarah, Travis, and Kenny Overbeck; also survived by several granddogs and great-granddogs. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987 and son Craig in 2005.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 23 from 5-7 p.m. at Stoddard Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
