Lorraine Piller, age 83, died peacefully, in her home in Ault, CO on Jan 7, 2011. Lorraine was born in Dixon, IL on Sept 19, 1927 to Leila Marie (Fiscel) and Herbert Leroy Bollman. She graduated from high school in Lee County, IL. She started attending college when she was needed as a teacher in a one-room rural school.
As a small girl, Lorraine played the violin. Later she learned to play the piano and played for the churches she and her family attended. Music was always a source of joy for her.
Lorraine met Arthur Piller at a wedding where she was the Maid of Honor and he was the Best Man. Romance took off from there. They married on Oct 12, 1947. Art was a milkman and Lorraine was a homemaker at the beginning of the marriage. Then they moved to a farm where they had their 5 children. They farmed the acreage as well as raised cattle, hogs, and chickens.
Due to health reasons, Lorraine and Art moved to Wiggins, CO in 1960 where Lorraine continued to be a homemaker and mother of 5. They moved to Hoyt, CO in 1964; Canyon, TX in 1966; Wellington, CO in 1967; Ault, CO in 1969.
She served at the churches as pianist, Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School coordinator and teacher.
After her children were grown, Lorraine worked outside her home at Plastic Art Products and Greeley Office Equipment, Inc.
The last years of Lorraine’s life were filled with the joy of her church, First Baptist Church of Pierce, CO - the ministry and the people she loved. She also attended many events with friends such as Barbershop Quartet performances and Gaither performances. However, if anything brought a smile to her face and a laugh to her heart it was the little ones in the family. The tender voices of the 2-year-old princesses, the giggle of the 3- month-old. The stories of the “older” boys about the books they were reading or the adventures they went on that day - riding the minibike or sledding, etc. and the goodbye with a shout of “I love you, GG” (Great Grandma) as they go out the door.
Lorraine will be remembered for her gift of giving, her thoughtfulness, her smile, and her love.
Lorraine is survived by her daughters: Annette Kress (Edward) of Apache Junction, AZ; Diana Piller of Ault, CO; Nancy Struzinski (David) of Pierce, CO; Karen Kayl (Doug) of Eaton, CO; her daughter-in-law Anne Piller of Oak Park, V A.
