

Louis Edward Watkins, 98, of Golden, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Golden Pond Assisted Living. Louis was born on February 9, 1917 in Hudson, Colorado to Augustus A. and Mable (Goetz) Watkins, the oldest of six children, Louis, Lloyd, Chuck, Bob, Paul and Mabel.
Louis worked as a land leveler until enlisting in the US Navy in 1942. He served in WWII in 1945. In 1946, he joined the Masonic Lodge in Hudson, Colorado and retained his membership until he passed.
He met Pearl Kashgegian while he was on leave in Boston and they were married on January 16, 1948. They moved to Greeley after their marriage. Pearl passed away April 15, 1995. He met Dorothy in 1996. She died in 2007.
Louis moved to Golden in 2008 and met his special friend, Lee Carper in 2009.
Louis was a very hard worker and provided well for his family. He loved animals, especially his family dogs, Spotty and Tucker. Nothing in life mattered more to him than his five grandchildren and his great-grandson, Cullen.
Louis is survived by his daughter, Joyce (Mark) Atkins; daughter-in-law, Kim Watkins; his very special friend, Lee; grandchildren, Micah (Crystal), Seth, Nathan, Brody (April) and Kellyn (fiancé, Jake) and great-grandson, Cullen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Pearl, son, Larry Watkins, four brothers, one sister and his special friend, Dorothy Gurney.
Funeral service will be at 12:00 noon Friday, March 6, 2015 at Stoddard Funeral Home. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
