Lucio Morado, 96, of Greeley, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022, at Westlake Lodge Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born July 6, 1925 in Laredo, Texas to Mateo Morado and Maria Apolinar Melendez.
Lucio met his wife Dominga and would have been married for 75 years on March 29, 2022. Both Lucio and Dominga were first and foremost dedicated to raising their children, but they also shared a love of dancing. Whether it was to Corridos or Rancheros, they moved swiftly across the dance floor in perfect unison, ending with the anticipated trademark cowboy boot stomp at the end.
Lucio was a farmer all his life. He planted and cultivated crops, worked on farm equipment, drove John Deere tractors and packed hills of silage. He especially loved irrigating many acres of various crop fields. His first employer was John Granite, followed by Roy Anderson. Then by Maurice Leffler and finally his son Donn Leffler. All of Weld County.
Lucio was a cowboy through and through. He enjoyed riding horses and wearing cowboy boots and hats. He also loved Gene Autry.
Lucio is survived by his wife Dominga F. (Hinojosa) and 10 children: Jose Morado, Frank Morado
(Maralee), Juanita Torrez (Frederick), Alonzo Morado (Ruperta), Rose Torrez, Frances Braafhart (William), Veronica Sheets (Allan), Barbara Kuk (Thomas), Chris Morado (Dani), and Fermin Morado (Madra). Also, by their 24 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his eldest son, Lupe Morado.
