Lucy Mary Lou Sanchez-Richardson

Lucy Mary Lou (Martinez) Sanchez-Richardson, 80, of Greeley, died Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Tru Hospice of Northern Colorado Inpatient Unit. She was born on January 8, 1937 in Walsenburg, Colorado to Joe and Opal (Carillo) Martinez.

Lucy grew up in the Pueblo and Greeley areas. On April 16, 2000, she married Clifford Richardson in Greeley at the home of her son, John Cruz.

Lucy always worked very hard. She was a cleaner, worked as a meat processor at Monfort and every Friday took her family out for a steak dinner. She had a strong Catholic faith and was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. She was a very giving person and would always help anyone in need. She loved to cook, especially her green chili, refried beans, rice and homemade tortillas.

Her passions included camping in the mountain, being outdoors, boating, taking trips to Black Hawk and traveling in Colorado, Arizona, California and Illinois. Above all was the love for her family.

Lucy is survived by her husband, Clifford; children, Anita (Augustine) Orozco of Johnstown and John (Lori) Cruz, Michelle Cruz and Ricardo (Yolanda) Cruz all of Greeley; sister, Marge Martinez of California; brothers, Richard Martinez of Pueblo, Leon Martinez of Greeley and Gene Martinez of Pueblo; 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Stoddard Funeral Home. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 9:00 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2017 followed by a Liturgical service at 9:30 a.m. both at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 915 12th Street, Greeley, Colorado.
