Lynn L. Walker

Lynn was an only child, and when he was 12 years old, his family moved to Oregon, where he later graduated from high school in Corvallis. During World War II, Lynn volunteered as a plane spotter. After high school, he hopped a train back to Colorado, where he began working as a farm hand and started a long and hardworking career.

In 1947, Lynn married Irma Kern. They shared 62 years together before her passing on January 25, 2010. Together, Lynn and Irma raised five children and built a loving family whose generations would become his greatest legacy.

Throughout his working years, Lynn held many different jobs. He worked in the mines in Leadville, as a logger, and at the Monfort Meatpacking plant. He eventually retired from the Town of Eaton, where he worked in the Sanitation Department. Retirement did not slow Lynn down. He continued driving trucks for local farmers until he was 90 years old.

Lynn had a lifelong passion for cars. He loved working on them, talking about them, and watching stock car racing. For many years, he raced on Saturday nights, enjoying the excitement and camaraderie of the track. He also served his community as a volunteer firefighter for the Town of Eaton.

Family was at the heart of Lynn’s life. He and Irma especially enjoyed spending summer days camping and fishing with their family. They were members of the First Congregational Church and participated in the Kersey and Pierce Senior Centers. Lynn was also active in the Odd Fellows Association, where he held several offices over the years.

Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Walker and Lillian Fletcher, and his beloved wife, Irma.

He leaves behind his five children: Bruce Douglas Walker of Galeton; Cheryl Lynne Lathrop of Greeley; Katherine Mary Reiff of Nunn; Leanna Kay Lopez (Diego III) of Eaton; and Christie Sue Matchett (Jim) of Gulf Shores, Alabama. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, and his sister-in-law, Peggy Ann Heinle.

Lynn will be remembered for his strong work ethic, love of cars and racing, dedication to his community, and, most of all, his devotion to his family. His long and well-lived life touched many people, and his memory will live on through the generations of family he leaves behind.
