We are heartbroken to announce that our daughter, Madeleine Marie Kemme, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep, age 31, on Monday, May 18, 2026, in Baltimore, MD. She was born June 27, 1994 in Greeley to Doug and Emily (Kahn) Kemme. She grew up in Greeley and graduated from University High School as class valedictorian in 2012. During high school, Madeleine was a member of the varsity tennis team and a cheerleader. As a child, she loved ballet classes and excelled at art and creative writing. In 2007, she won 3rd Place for the age 12 category in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Colorado Junior Duck Stamp Contest. She attended Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA and graduated with a bachelors degree in graphic design from University of Northern Colorado in 2022. At the time of her death, she was working towards an associate degree in robotics. She was a professional artist and documentary filmmaker.
She was loved for her sweet, kind, genuine nature that, combined with a knack for humor and honesty, created an unforgettable young woman. Brilliant, beautiful, and talented, she was diagnosed with a severe mental illness at age 19 but was a fighter, determined to live as normally as possible. At the time of her passing, she was happy, and excited about her progressing healing journey. She looked forward to art shows, family visits, travel, and living independently while pursuing her artistic interests. Madeleine’s brain has been donated to the NIH NeuroBioBank at the University of Maryland where it will be included in a U.M./Johns Hopkins research study to better understand schizophrenia and other severe mental illnesses, and ultimately enhance their treatment. We are consoled by the thought that she is at peace.
Madeleine is survived by her parents, Emily and Doug Kemme of Greeley; her brother Jordan (spouse Mia) of Atlanta, GA; nephew Leo Kemme; niece Lia Kemme; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Robert and Monica Kahn and paternal grandparents, Richard and Mary Kemme.
A private funeral/interment will be held at Linn Grove Cemetery on May 27, 2026. There will be a Celebration of Life in September. Memorial donations may be made to “Big Bones Canine Rescue” or “North Range Behavioral Health” in care of Allnutt Funeral Service - Macy Chapel, 6521 W. 20th Street, Greeley, CO 80634.
