

Maria Guadalupe (Barragan) Contreras, 36, of Greeley, died Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at TRU Hospice of Northern Colorado due to complications of Breast Cancer. She was born on September 13, 1980 in Nuevo Ideal, DGO, Mexico to Guadalupe Barragan Valdivia and Rosa Maria Gurrola Astorga.
Growing up, Maria and her family worked as migrant workers until the family settled in Greeley during her teenage years. She attended Greeley schools and graduated from Greeley Central High School in 1999. She attended Aims Community College for one year.
Maria was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Her faith was strong in God throughout her life. She enjoyed spending time with her children, doing crafts, crocheting, knitting and playing the internet game “Hay Day”. She loved holidays; her favorite being Christmas. She was an avid Broncos fan.
Maria is survived by her sons, D’Angelo Aparicio, Dominic Aparicio and Christopher Contreras, god daughter, Miracle Gonzales of Greeley; mother, Rosa Maria (Luis) Gonzales of Greeley; sisters, Virginia Barragan and Oralia (Jake) Morales both of Greeley; four brothers, Jose (Anatalia) Salgado of Greeley, Israel (Whitney) Gonzales of Brighton and Luis A. (Candida) Gonzales and Sergio Salgado both of Greeley; brother-in-law, James Diaz of Greeley and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, grandparents, aunt, Yvette Gurrola and cousin Angel Abrams.
Visitation will be from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2016 with Recitation of the Rosary at 4:00 p.m. both at Stoddard Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
