Marilyn C. Owen

Marilyn graduated from Colorado College in 1954 with a B.A. degree in Political Science. She was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. Upon graduation, she briefly worked for Philips Petroleum Company in Denver before she married David Owen, a career Army officer, on December 29, 1955 in Bartlesville. She joined her husband while he was stationed at military posts in Colorado, North Carolina, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Florida and Washington, D.C. She also accompanied him overseas to Germany and Iran.

Upon David’s retirement from the Army in December 1979, they moved to Greeley where she co-owned and operated for eight years Greeley Tom’s Sales, a wholesale snack food company. After the company was sold, she became a homemaker while her husband served in the Colorado General Assembly. During this time she was active in politics and served on local campaigns of former President George H.W. Bush and former U.S. Senator Hank Brown. The highlight of her political activities was an invitation by former President G.W. Bush to attend the annual White House Christmas Party.

Marilyn was Past President of Greeley Republican Women and Chapter I P.E.O. She was a member of Questers, DAR and the Greeley Philharmonic Guild where she was responsible for one of the first Poinsettia Pops. She also was a board member of Transitional House and CDSI, now Envision.

Marilyn loved to garden, play bridge and travel. She also was an animal lover.

She is survived by her husband, David; sons Scott (Candace) and Charles; and granddaughters, Ashley and Melissa. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Marilyn will be remembered for kindness, generosity and devotion to her family.

Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at the Allnutt Macy Chapel. Reception to follow in the Allnutt Reception Center. Inurnment at a later date at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
