

Marilyn was born on September 29, 1935, in Galesburg, Illinois, to Lyle and Ruth (Jacobs) Smith. From the beginning, her life reflected a steady strength that remained with her always.
On September 29, 1952, she married Arl Edgar Purcell Sr. Together they built a life centered on family and shared many years of marriage until his passing on November 18, 1982.
After raising her children, Marilyn devoted many years to serving others through her work as a cook with Weld County School District 6 and the University of Northern Colorado. She took pride in her work and was known for her strong work ethic.
Marilyn found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed crafting and canning, and she loved to travel. Some of her favorite trips included visits to Japan, Texas, and New Orleans for Mardi Gras. These adventures brought her great happiness and many cherished memories.
Above all else, Marilyn loved her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the center of her world, and she treasured every moment spent with them.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Arl Purcell Sr.; and her parents, Lyle and Ruth Smith.
She is survived by her children, Lyle Purcell of Greeley; Debra Whisenhunt (Bruce) of Nevada; Diana Moore of Greeley; Arl “Ed” Purcell Jr. (Christy) of Eaton; Robert “Bob” Purcell of Fort Collins; Tammy Foss (Curtis) of Texas; 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Marilyn's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 pm on March 18, 2026, at Linn Grove Cemetery, 1700 Cedar Avenue, Greeley, Colorado 80631.
