It has been nearly 6 months now since Mark passed away.  Sometimes it takes time to process tragedy such as this - which was the case for me.  I still wanted to write to my great family of cousins and their great mom, my Aunt Ginny to share the memory of this great cousin of mine.  
Although Mark and I did not have the chance to spend a whole lot of time together as adults, I have tremendous memories of the visits I made to Berea with my parents during my youth into young adulthood.  Our fathers shared a very close bond as brothers... it was that fine example and family tradition that helped to mold a guy like Mark to grow into a great father himself.  Mark was destined to be a very special father to Andrew.  He accomplished so much in the short time they spent together as so many others have shared in this guestbook.  I had always admired the path that Mark chose to follow in working with people with special needs and it's no mistake that Andrew came into his life.  
I will always treasure the times that I spent with Mark.  I know that his presence will be missed but I rest assured that he is at peace in a greater place with our Dad's close at hand.

I remember the first time I got to know Mark better was at Andrew's 3rd birthday party after the Forest Park walk.  I am so grateful to had been in company of so many wonderful people and I am so sadden that Mark cannot physically be here now.  I told my husband, Steve, who also was at Andrew's birthday party 3 years ago, about Mark's passing and the first thing Steve mentioned was how Mark's siblings are going to miss him so much.  That was the first and only time Steve met Mark and his family but everyone left a great impression.  Mark has certainly left a great impression on everyone he meets and what a wonderful father he was to Andrew.  I am confident that Mark's spirit will live on in Andrew and feel great relief when I think about all the people who are making sure that happens.

When I got home I finally saw the notice about Mark and consequently finally have an outlet to send my condolences. I'm so very sorry. When I got the phone call from Keith Walker just before I left for Colorado I called Tom. We have been so saddened as former neighbors and all the times Mark was in my house with Tom. Yes, Virginia I was going to visit you in Colorado, but the phone number I had for you didn't work, so I will write you soon.

Mark was a dear friend of mine here in St. Louis, and I just learned of his passing yesterday. Iâ???Tve known him for the past 7 years. I learned a great deal about caring for young children with special needs from Mark. He blessed me with the privilege to be a nanny to his dear son Andrew. Even after I graduated college and started a career I was able to spend time with both Mark and Andrew. My condolences are with his family. Just remember how great of a person he was. He was an excellent father, and that will reflect in Andrew. I know that when I see Andrew again, it will only bring back good memories of Mark.

So many thoughts of the Lundbergs these past few weeks... 40 plus  years of friendship with Midge and Mark... My deepest sympathies are with all of Mark's family, especially Andrew.  What love he received from his dad!!!!!
 I have had so many thoughts, too,  of Lechner and Berea and the wonderful memories that go along with those...  I remember Mark's quiet demeanor, yet funny, funny sense of humor.  How lucky we all were to know him!!  How lucky Andrew is to have a father who obviously loved him so very much and was his true ""champion!""  My thoughts and sympathies to you all, especially Midge.

News of marks passing has only just now reached me.
Here i read through so many wonderful thoughts and recognize so many names of people known long ago in childhood.Our minds then not yet cluttered nor cautious as they often are in adulthood,and even with these ""simple"" minds or perhaps because of them,whether we knew him particularly well or not mark was recognized as a genuine and good person.He seems to have carried this trait with him throughout his entire though be it too short life.This is a great thing...R.I.P

I was deeply saddened to learn of Mark's passing.  So many memories of Lechner school, where we were identified as either being in ""Mark's class"" or ""Midge's class"".  I was always in Mark's class, and remember him as sweet, quiet, and sometimes a little bit ornery.  We were all fortunate to have such a great group of friends.  My deepest sympathies to the entire Lundberg family, Mark's spirit will live on in each of you.  Midge, you are in my prayers.

Mark meant the world to Andrew and we are all with overwhelming sadness that he is no longer with us.  I cannot begin to describe the void we feel for he was always there for us.  I am committed to preserve the precious memories of Mark that Andrew has.  On his last day with us, when we went to the Arch, I lagged behind and watched the two of them sitting together on the Arch steps, not speaking, just enjoying the quiet moment with one another.  This is a memory that I will cherish forever.  Father and son side-by-side.  My thoughts and prayers are with all of the Lundbergs while you struggle to imagine life without him. As I write this, memories from childhood at your house come flooding back...the rickshaw, going to Jaquway lake, Cedar Point, St.Mary's, etc. Spending time with you all as a child was a big part of my life. Mark, Midge, Tommy and I had a special bond because we were all born within a few momths of each other.  We could go long periods of time without seeing each other but once we were together again, we always had so much fun. I feel particularly blessed to have gotten to know my cousin Mark over the last few years in St. Louis. We shared a strong bond that parents of children with special needs can instantly form. Mark was a ""hero"" in the book of fathers as he his devotion, love and passion to his son was truly extraordinary! He rose to the challenge and gave Andrew his all each and every day! I met Mark at Roehm Jr. High and found him to always be genuinely kind, mature, and even keel.  I am glad to have known him.  As a Fairwood Elementary kid, I remember feeling an immediate  kinship with many of the neighboring Lechner kids and after reading these fond remembrances, I am once again reminded why Berea was such a fine place to grow up. I learned the shocking news of Mark's passing a few days ago and have not been able to stop thinking of him and his great family. I cannot tell you how saddened my mom, brother and I were upon hearing the news. We were old Berea neighbors and fellow classmates up until the 3rd grade. As with all the girls, I too had a crush on Mark! Those blue eyes and that striking smile are what come to mind when I think of him. I always admired the Lundberg family and their love for Colorado. We moved to Strongsville in 4th grade but I would occasionally run into Midge and Mark through the years and during college Spring Breaks. As I grow older I think of the earlier days more and more and all the great people who have touched my life. Mark's passing has brought great saddness to me. I send my deepest sympathies to Midge, Mary and the whole Lundberg family. I am sure Mark's sparkling eyes and warm smile will be carried on through his son. I am so very sorry for your loss (as well as for those of us who knew him).

When someone special from your childhood passes, a piece of your heart goes, too, no matter how long it's been since you have seen them. I remember Mark as kind, gentle, friendly, shy, quick to smile, and cute! I remember sitting in PSR and reviewing the latest Little House episode with Midge and the girls and Mark laughing at us. It's the little things!  It's also amazing that so many people from our childhood come together to remember a friend. We were a lucky group of kids. Midge. I hope you feel our support and love.

When I remember Mark from high school I think of a kind, gentle, smart and solid person who was always a calming presence. From reading the recollections of others, it appears that he remained the gentleman that he always was until he was taken from his family and friends too soon. My sincere sympathy to Midge, his son and the entire Lundberg family.

I remember Mark as an easygoing spirit and a genuinely good person.  I remember him, laughing, smiling, and the good times associated with being in his company.  I remember Mark being a bit conservative in his demeanor around me, so I would always try to weave something outrageous or unexpected into our conversation, just see if I could get him laughing (I usually could).  Mark was just a great young man to know and grow up with.  It is painful to know that a special person from my small Lechner Elementary family is gone.  There is something profoundly sobering with the loss of a childhood friend.  However, the great thing Mark takes with him is the love and respect of all the friends he made in his time with us.  I understand he has a son Andrew, and my hope for his son is that he fully knows how special his Dad was to so many.  My thoughts and prayers are truly with all of Markâ???Ts family and friends that loved and cared about him.

As with everyone, I was deeply saddened with Mark's passing.  Mark and I were close friends throughout High School and actively involved in Swimming & Water Polo together.
Unfortunately, our friendship drifted apart once high school ended.  Luckily this past Christmas, with the help of Midge, I got in touch with Mark and my wife and I had the pleasure to spend my birthday with Mark and his Girlfriend in St. Louis.  Although it will not become an annual event as we had hoped, that one get-together after 25 years will always be a cherished memory.  Thanks Mark!

I am a better person thanks to having crossed lives with Mark. He was always a gentle and dear friend who put me at ease, like we had just seen each other despite the fact it had been years. Since the day â???oMark and Midgeâ?? became my first friends at a young age to the Lechner, Roehm and BHS years, through the times I visited him on trips to Denver and St. Louis, to a weekend in Baltimore, he always greeted me with, â???oHowâ???Ts it going old buddy?â?? Markâ???Ts untimely passing has been very difficult as wonderful memories of times together come back. His dedication to the welfare of children was evident in his work. My heart felt sympathy is with his son Andrew, Midge and the rest of the Lundberg family. Mark was truly a keeper and old soul, the type of person whose spirit will live on in the many he touched. Iâ???Tve found some comfort in that close friends of mine had twins the day of Markâ???Ts passing. I think Mark would have thought the miracle of life was pretty cool.

I have been shocked and deeply saddened since I heard about Mark.  I went to school with Mark from elementary school all the way through high school.  The flood of returning memories is overwhelming.  Our families used to spend summers picnicking and swimming at Jacquay Lake in Ohio.  I had such a crush on Mark back then!  Iâ???Tm not sure I ever outgrew it all the way through school.  He was such a genuinely kind, open and honest person.  I have always told friends â???oIf I hear Mark is going to be at a high school reunion, Iâ???Tm going!â??  Midge, I can only imagine how difficult this has been for you.  My heart goes out to you and your whole family.  Please know that Mark will always hold a special place in my heart.  Andrew, your father was, and will remain, a very special person to many people.

I wish I could be there with the family to share memories of Mark and attend services. He will be missed by many. I did not see Mark much as an adult but have memories of him when I was a kid and Ed and I would visit for holidays. I will be thinking of all of you over the next several days and I am keeping you in my prayers.

I am very saddened by your loss. Please know that Mark was a very special part of my childhood and HS. The entire Lundberg family has been an important part in many of my personal and my families' life experiences so I genuinely grieve over your loss. I grin when I remember Mark and I swearing at Mr. Skalski (affectionately of course) while we struggled to put that cat skeleton together in HS Zoology. At one of my parents funerals I was reminded by a friend that though we are crying while saying ""see you later"", others are rejoicing and saying ""here he comes"". My deepest sympathy and prayers go out to the Lundberg family.  During my friendship with Mark in Berea my fondest memories were of his love of music and his sharp wit.  When I heard the tragic news and shared it with my family we reminisced about his personality and about all the times Mark came over to the house always in his jeans & topsiders and my dog Buffy always nipping at his ankles.  He hated that dog and we still laugh about it to this day.  I think many of us have shared with each other the laughter we had with Mark and smiled.  I hope those fond memories bring you some peace knowing how he touched so many of our lives and that through the years he has always remained the special person that he was.

When I think back to high school and all our good memories, Mark is right there in middle of them all.  I don't even remember exactly when we met but that he was just there...my friend.  We shared so many happy times. We had more laughs driving around in Peter's car just talking and wasting gas.  He was such a loyal and reliable friend with that dry sense of humor and brutal honesty which I wouldn't trade for the world!

I will always cherish the memories of all the wonderful times we spent together in high school.  I met Mark through Midge, and he became my first high school crush.  I remember spending time with him in Study Hall and how I looked forward to seeing him.  He had a genuine heart and piercing blue eyes, and he was a friend to many.  I am sorry that I lost touch with him over the years, but Midge kept me up to date on Mark's life, and his love for his son, Andrew.  I feel fortunate to have known Mark, and to have had a close relationship with he and Midge.  I will keep all of you in my prayers, as you mourn his death and celebrate his life.

Dear Lundberg Family:
I was deeply saddened by Mark's passing.  He was one of my oldest and dearest friends.  My mother and I met Mark and Midge on the playground at Lechner School even before we started school together.  We remained close throughout our lives even though distance sometimes made that challenging.  I spent a weekend with Mark in St. Louis 5 or 6 yrs ago and had the opportunity to meet Andrew.  I could see then that Mark was proud and grateful to be a father.  I am proud and grateful that Mark was a part of my life and I will miss him.

I will forever remember Mark as that sweet, always smiling, quiet brother of Midge's!  I mean, really, how could he be any other way?  
You will never know how much his death has affected me and so many others.

It is so hard to believe that Mark is gone.  We all loved him so much.  He was such a great father to Andrew.  I know Andrew is going to struggle without his Dad.  They idolized one another.
Mark had the most wonderful smile and was always such a pleasure to be with.  A really great brother-in-law.  He was the kind of guy everyone felt like they could talk to about anything and everything.  He was a port in a storm for some. 
We were so happy to see Mark and Andrew last summer in Estes Park.  Mom, Mark, Andrew and other family members enjoyed a picnic at Sprague Lake.  Andrew especially liked our dog, Dister.  We all could see that Marks hard work with Andrew had paid off.
I feel so very blessed to have had Mark for a brother-in-law.

Hello: I'm so sorry to hear about Mark's passing.  I graduated with Mark from Berea High.  We were more then acquaintances, but not great friends.  I always respected Mark for his quiet demeanor and happy appearance.  He is a true gentleman and will be missed. I'm glad I had the opportunity to call him a friend.
