Marlene Louise Cross

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marlene Cross, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. Marlene was born on December 18, 1951, in Brush, Colorado, to John and Josephine Douglass. She peacefully departed this life on August 11, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of her family.

Marlene's life was a remarkable journey filled with joy, love, and resilience. Marlene attended Galeton Elementary School before her family moved to Greeley where she met the love of her life, James Cross, who lived just down the street from Marlene. Marlene graduated from Greeley Central High School before the two were married in Greeley on April 12, 1969. Together they shared 57 wonderful years of marriage, raising their three sons: Dwight, Tim (Jamie), and Kevin (Amy).

Marlene and Jim's home was always filled with laughter and warmth, a testament to their strong and loving partnership. Marlene was a dedicated mother and homemaker, devoting her early years to raising her sons until they started school. Her outgoing nature and personality extended beyond her family as she began her career as a lab technician at the Great Western Sugar Factory in Greeley, Colorado. She later joined Monfort Laboratory, where she worked until her retirement.

A woman of many talents and interests, Marlene found joy in the great outdoors. She enjoyed camping and fishing, with Rob Roy Reservoir in Wyoming being her favorite spot to cast a line and enjoy the beautiful mountain views. She was also an avid reader, often found with a book in hand. She enjoyed playing card games like pitch and playing UNO with her grandchildren. In her younger years, Marlene enjoyed playing softball alongside her husband and close friends.

Marlene's kind heart and warm smile touched the lives of everyone she met. She was a beacon of strength and kindness, always ready to offer a listening ear, a comforting hug, or a good laugh. Her legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Marlene is survived by her devoted husband, Jim, her three sons and their families, including her cherished grandchildren: Tanner, Breanna, Kloe, Shealyn, Wyatt, and Zack. She is also survived by her brother Leonard Douglass of Cheyenne, Wy., and sister Carolyn Cecil of Galeton, Co. as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Marlene is also survived by her beloved furry companions, Josie and Daisy.

Marlene was predeceased in death by her father, John Douglass; her mother, Josephine Douglass, mother-in-law, Helen Cross; father-in-law, Harry Cross, and brother-in-law, Wayne Cecil.

Marlene will live on forever in the hearts of her family and friends; her spirit and love will be remembered by all who knew her.

A celebration of Marlene’s life will take place at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 24th at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
