Mary Gutierrez

Mary Gutierrez of Greeley passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Life Care Center of Greeley. She was born September 3, 1924 in Loresburg, New Mexico to Carlos and Guadalupe (Gallegos) Ayala. She married Joe “Chavelo” Gutierrez on January 2, 1953 in Pueblo. In 1960 they moved to Greeley.

Mary worked at UNC in food service for many years along with raising her family. She was a very kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her home and kept it spotless. She loved to cook. She especially enjoyed cooking for the holidays. Above all was her love and care of her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her husband Joe “Chavelo” Gutierrez; daughter Pat Gutierrez (Jack) of Greeley; sons Tony Baros (Joyce) of Pueblo and Chuck Gutierrez of Greeley; sisters Lucy Villanueva and Dolores Munoz (Joseph) all of Pueblo; 10 grandchildren including her granddaughter Lauren Hernandez who had a very close and special relationship with her grandmother; and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Tom, a sister Josephine and a brother Ted.

Visitation will be held 5 – 7 p.m. Monday at Stoddard Funeral Home. Recitation of the Rosary will take place at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday at St. Peters Catholic Church followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
