Mica Jo passed away peacefully at her home in Loveland with her mother, sister and father holding her hands on August 31, 2015 after a protracted battle with cancer. Mica was only 39 years old. Mica was born in Glenwood Springs, CO on July 5, 1976. She was the first child of Steven and Peggy Jo Shelton. Mica and her two sisters were raised in Basalt Colo., where she graduated high school in 1994 as salutatorian of her class. She was her parent’s
athlete of the family, being on the school basketball, volleyball and softball teams throughout junior and senior high school. Mica went on to college and graduated from Greeley with a business degree. Mica took employment with the Fort Collins Coloradoan newspaper after graduation and remained there until she could no longer work. She often called her fellow workers at the paper her second family. They were there for all the joy and tears of her life when family could not be there. Mica suffered a broken knee, inflicted by her boss, at a company softball game. Though called an accident she always had the nagging feeling it was payback for all the grief she had given him. Mica Jo had a brief marriage to Aaron Clark . Though Mica did not have any children of her own, she was devoted to her two nephews Adam and Marco Santos. She happily declared herself the crazy aunt and was doing her best to live up to the title. She even set up a bail money fund for the boys, should they ever need it. She and her dad loved each other unconditionally, but they locked horns, he says, from the day she came out of the womb. Her dad often said that not only did she know how to push his button but would stand on that button. Mica and her mother were polar opposites but best friends and inseparable. She and her sisters, Kimberlee Santos and Niki Shelton, were so very close. Mica sold her house in Wellington when she became ill and moved in with Niki, the youngest. They were both great hockey fans and had Eagles season tickets and cheered them on every game along with the Avalanche and Blackhawks. Her greatest fear was that no one would remember her after her death. As all that knew her can attest, she is hard to forget. To say she will be missed is huge understatement. We love you Mica Jo.
Mica is survived by her father and mother Steven and Peggy Jo (Ketterman) Shelton, of Buena Vista, her sister Kimberlee Jo (Shelton) and husband Christopher Santos of Loveland, Sister Niki Jo Shelton of Loveland. Her nephews Adam and Marco Santos of Loveland. Also her grandparents Laura Ketterman of Rifle, Juanel Holman of Chandler, Az, and Joe Shelton of Grand Junction. She also has many aunts, uncles and cousins. Proceeding her in death was her beloved grandfather David Ketterman of Glenwood Springs.
Services will be held Saturday the 5th at the Allnutt Funeral Home in Loveland at 10:00 AM.
