Michael attended school in Cortland, Ohio, before moving to Colorado in 1993. He attended Franklin Middle School, Heath Junior High School and Greeley West High School before moving to Aztec, New Mexico, where he graduated from Aztec High School in 1999.
Following graduation, Michael returned to Ohio, where he worked at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren. He later moved with his parents to Berlin, Ohio, where he worked at Pomerene Hospital in the heart of Amish Country.
