Oliver Walter Michael, 94, of Greeley passed away April 23, 2020 at Centennial Health Care Center in Greeley. He was born November 1, 1925 to Samuel E. Michael and Esther E. (Meier) Michael in St. Louis, Missouri. He married Marion F. Tress on November 9, 1949.
As a child and teenager, Oliver was a Boy Scout. He started stamp collecting at an early age. He ran track at Beaumont High School in St. Louis, Missouri. He graduated in June 1943.
He entered into the U.S. Navy January 28, 1944. He served as a Pharmacist 3rd Class, at hospitals in San Diego and Oakland, in Okinawa and in the Philippines following the Battle of Leyte Gulf. He was honorably discharged on June 6, 1946.
He graduated from St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 1949. He managed at Gasen/Super X drugstores in St. Louis until 1972. He lived and worked at pharmacies in Estes Park and Fort Morgan from 1972-1981. Also, while living in Estes Park he managed Eiker’s Motel. Oliver and his wife Marion managed a Motel 6 in Pueblo for a short while. He was a member of Kiwanis Club in Estes Park. They moved to Greeley in 1981 and worked at the pharmacy in Toddy’s. he also worked for Enterprise Rent-A-Car and Aims Community College.
Oliver played in several softball and bowling leagues, he also enjoyed playing golf. He loved to travel, he enjoyed taking his family all over the U.S. taking many photos. He visited over 40 U.S. Sates. Oliver and his wife Marion traveled several times to Europe and to Hawaii. Besides Colorado, one of his favorite destinations was the Lake Tahoe area.
Oliver was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Greeley, where he served as an elder and trustee.
Oliver is survived by his daughter, Elaine Potter of Black Forest; son, Alan Michael of Greeley; grandchildren, Jon Michael (Debbie), Erin DeLaRosa (Joel), Alan Michael Jr (Darcy) and Jason Michael.; great-grandchildren, Kaily, Jacob, Cierra, Hailey, Hanna, Austin, Taylor, Emily, Cheyenne, and Joel DeLaRosa.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marion F. Michael; son, David Michael; and parents Samuel E. Michael and Esther E. Michael.
