Paul A. Ansley

March 16, 1924February 22, 2012

Paul Albertus Ansley of Kersey passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2012 Greeley. He was born March 16, 1924 to William Evan and Dora (Walker) Ansley at the family ranch near Haswell, Colorado. While growing up he attended a one room school house until 8th grade, at which tme he started working full time between the home ranch and Rush Creek Ranch, north of the home place. Paul married Ethel R. Larrew on May 21, 1945 in Garden City, Kansas. After marriage they owned and operated ranches in Haswell, Karval, Fairplay, and Orchard, Colorado. Paul loved all aspects of ranching. The ranch in Orchard was sold in 1989, moving to Kersey to retire, but retirement was far from his mind. Paul traveled around, helping his sons on their ranches for over a decade, before ill health forced him to stay closer to home. He stayed busy in his “free” time collecting pop cans off the side of the road. Paul knew no stranger, telling stories and visiting with anyone. Above all was his love for his family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Ethel; daughters, Charlotte Hansen of Monument, and Pamela Rucker (Rick) of Buena Vista, Colorado; sons, Chet Ansley (Stephanie) of Hemingford, Nebraska, Rod Ansley (Sandy) of Seneca, Nebraska, Den Ansley (Rona) of Lemoyne, Nebraska and Scott Ansley (Tawanna) of Harrisburg, Nebraska and a nephew raised like a son, Mike Herrell of Colorado Springs, Colorado; brothers, George Ansley (Cora) and David Ansley (Lucille) all of Haswell, Colorado; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, William Ansley, granddaughter, Melanie Ansley and a son-in-law, Ron Hansen. Celebration of Life service 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2012 at Stoddard Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northern Colorado or Caring Hearts, or a charity of your choice in care of Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 W. 28th St., Greeley, CO 80634.

Dear Pam, and the entire Ansley family, I am so very sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. I have very fond memories of your ranch in Fairplay. And I know you dearly miss him. My dad, Dale Hamilton, always thought so highly of Paul and the boys, and still does. May God's peace be with you all. Rita (Hamilton)

Dear Charlotte & Family,
I am sorry to hear of your Dad's passing, but I understand he had been going through a very difficult time for quite a while. Your Dad was such a sweet man, despite the fact he loved to tease me on the rare occasions when we saw each other. I never saw him without a smile on his face. He was a wonderful man, who will be missed by many, many people. You, your Mom and your family are all in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. Please give my love to all, especially to your Mom and Pam.
Love, Marty
