Paul Gentle, 64, of Greeley, passed away on June 4, 2018, at the Hospice of Northern Colorado.
Paul was born to Dennis and Janet (Dilley) Gentle on Feb. 23, 1954 in Hitchin, England. Five days before turning 3, Paul and his family set sail for America aboard the Queen Elizabeth. At just age 8, Paul would meet his future wife, Connie (Berry), who lived on the same street with only a house separating them. The two became longtime childhood friends.
In 1973, Paul enlisted in the United States Army. After training, he was deployed to Camp Pieri in Wiesbaden, Germany, where he decoded nuclear warheads. Later that year, Paul came home to attend his brother’s graduation, where he ran into Connie. They went on a date but had to continue their romance by cassette tape because Paul returned to Germany a week later. In March of 1975, Paul came home and asked Connie to marry him, and on April 11, during another military leave, the couple were wed in Las Vegas. After the wedding, the two moved to Germany until Paul’s honorable discharge from the Army in 1976.
Paul and Connie returned to America and lived in Texas for nine months before moving back to Colorado, where they raised two children, Chris and Kara. In 1980, Paul graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with an Accounting and Finance degree and began working for United Agra Products that same year in acquisitions. In 1996, he became a financial planner for Mutual Of Omaha. Paul loved camping, fishing, golfing and spending time with his family and friends.
Paul is preceded in death by his father, Dennis Gentle of Greeley. He is survived by his wife, Connie; his children, Chris Gentle of Windsor and Kara Martin of McKinnney, Texas; his mother, Janet Gentle of Greeley; siblings Gary Gentle of Greeley and Jackie Weimer of The Villages, Fla.; four grandchildren, Mikaela Martin, Ethan Martin, Peyton Gentle and Avery Gentle; son-in-law, Andy Martin; and daughter-in-law Lindsay Gentle.
His family will host a Celebration of Life Gathering at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 11, at the Greeley First Church of Nazarene (2515 W. 16th St. in Greeley). A reception will follow in the church gym.
