Pauline Alice Diaz, 82, of Milliken, died August 13, 2014 at her home. She was born January 22, 1932 in Castillo, New Mexico to Ramon and Nicomedes (Barela) Martinez. Pauline married Francisco DeLaRosa Diaz in December of 1951 in Greeley Colorado. He died July 4, 1990.
Pauline moved to Johnstown with her family and lived in the Colony there. She attended Johnstown schools. Following her education she worked in the fields for many farmers in the Weld County area. During that time she helped care for her brothers and sisters. Pauline lived in Indio, California for many years and later in Happy, Texas. She returned to Milliken in 1992.
Among Pauline’s accomplishments was when she went to help with Caesar Chavez activities to help improve better working conditions for farm workers throughout the nation. Pauline enjoyed gardening and embroidery work. Above all was her love for her family. Her proudest moment was being a mother to her four daughters.
Pauline was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnstown. She was very active in the Legion of Mary and sang in the choir. She was a member of the Cursillos Movement and also a Catechism teacher. She also worked with Meals on Wheels in Happy, Texas.
Pauline is survived by her four daughters, Judy Garza of Milliken, Frances Garza of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Virginia “Gennie” Delgado of LaQuinta, California and Debra (Ben) Delgado of Thermal, California; sisters, Barbara (Donnie) Crespin and Maria (Phil) Zamarripa all of Johnstown; brothers, Juan Jose (Joann) Martinez of Greeley, Ray Martinez of Johnstown, Roger Martinez of Denver and Amado Ray (Andrea) Martinez of Goodyear, Arizona; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Francisco and two brothers, Gilbert and Norman.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 19 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Inurnment will take place at Happy Cemetery in Happy, Texas.
