Born January 18, 1936, in Milliken, Colorado to Herman Rivera and Maria Limon-Sanchez, Peter spent most of his life in Greeley where he built a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering devotion to family.
Peter served honorably in the United States Army from July 1, 1956, to May 19, 1958. He remained deeply proud of his military service throughout his life, often bringing that sense of discipline, humor, and pride into his everyday lifestyle. To his grandchildren, he was known for playful push-up challenges, racing down the block, and lovingly treating them like little army recruits. He brought laughter, pleasure, and a strong moral compass to all who knew him.
He raised his granddaughter, Angelic, whom he called Bunny, with the care and dedication of a father. Throughout his life he continued to be a steady and loving presence in her life and the lives of all his grandchildren. He was the definition of a family man; he would go out of his way to attend events and visit those he cherished the most. It brought him great joy to bring his grandchildren new toys, ice cream, and take them out places. Peter always looked dapper and had a unique sense of style. He was retired in his later years, spending his time spoiling the people he loved most.
Peter is survived by his daughters, Annette Martinez, Jannelle (Eddie) Talamantes, Neomi Rivera, Roda Rivera, and granddaughter Angelic Rodriguez; as well as his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom brought great joy to his life. He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Purcell, Pauline Lidgren, Marie Sierra, Linda Stimple, Joe Rivera, and Tina Sasso.
Peter is predeceased by his son, Peter Rivera Jr., his parents Herman and Maria, and his siblings Anita Diaz, Marie Purcella, Sophie Romero, John Able Rivera, Irene Sierra, and Richard Rivera.
A memorial service and reception will be held on June 30, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Stoddard Funeral Home in Greeley. A military burial will follow on July 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
Peter’s love, strength, and playful spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
