Raymond Lee Mora was born on May 27, 1938 to Ramon Vargas Mora and Felicia Nunez Mora in San Antonio, Texas. Ray was raised in Ione/Ft Lupton, Colorado. Ray attended primary school in Ione and graduated from Ft Lupton High School in 1956. Ray played football in high school and loved being a Blue Devil! Once a Blue Devil, always a Blue Devil!
Ray married Corina Montoya on November 9, 1963 in Erie, Colorado.
In 1969 Ray and his wife Cora bought and ran PeeWee’s Place, Mora’s Liquor and Anita’s Kitchen. After they sold the businesses in 1979, Ray went to work for Western Electric and then in 1982 he worked for Hewlett Packard until he retired in 1996.
Ray was a Platteville Town Council Board Member in the 1970’s, a founding member of the Platteville Amigos Booster Club, Coached the Platteville Robins, Platteville Amigos and Platteville Lions Baseball teams. Ray sat on the Weld County Planning Board and the Weld County Parole Board in the 1990’s.
Ray was an avid fan of sports and he liked the Denver Bears, Broncos, Los Angeles Dodgers, Colorado Rockies and the LA Lakers. Ray enjoyed fishing, cooking, sports and spending time with his grandkids and family.
Ray is survived by his son James Ray Mora (Lorie) of Platteville, Daughter Anita Mora-Judd (Adam) of Las Cruces, NM. Grand-children Isaac Mora (Mandy) Evans, Jarrod Ray Mora (Stefanie) Greeley, Thomas Raymond Judd of Las Vegas, NV, Koury Judd of Las Cruces, NM. Great-Grandchildren Alijah Mora, Xaniyah Mora and Daniel Mora.
Siblings, Lupe Castro of Evans, Ginger Chacon of Greeley, Annie Negrete (Ray) of Denver, Lora Flores (David) of Greeley, Mary Chacon (John) of Greeley, Toonie Marquez of Denver, Joseph Mora (Pat) of Ft Lupton and Patrick Mora (Vicki) of Brush. Special friends Bill Kunzman of Ft Collins, Isaac Montoya of Greeley, Karla Castro & Eileen Legino of Gilcrest, Carolina Vargas of Greeley & Lonnie Aragon of Greeley.
He was preceded in death by his Wife Cora Mora, Parents Ramon & Faye Mora, Sisters Irene Sena and Mary Ellen Montoya and his loves Honey & Chula Mora.
Ray will be cremated but you can pay respects to him and visit his family on Thursday January 2, 2020 at Stoddard Funeral Home from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.
Funeral will be at Mosaic Church in Evans on January 3, 2020 at 10:00am. The luncheon will start immediately after the funeral service at Mosaic Church.
Ray was proud supporter of Bam’s Legacy Foundation and it was his wish to request in Lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to be made to Bam’s Legacy Foundation Scholarship Fund in care of Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 West 28th Street, Greeley, CO 80634.
