The Lord suddenly called Raymond Samuel Liesman home on March 6, 2011 in Sterling, Colorado. He was born to Raymond C. and Martha (Kienbaum) Liesman on January 31, 1940 in Merrill, WI. He lived the majority of his life in Colorado.
After graduating from Centennial High School in Pueblo, CO, he began his degree in Civil Engineering at University of Colorado in Boulder. He served his country in the US Army, SP5, from 1962 - 1965. Upon returning to CU to complete his degree, he married Wanda Anders, his friend and faithful wife of 40 years, on August 24, 1968, at the University Lutheran Chapel in Boulder. They spent two and a half years in Seattle, WA while he worked for the Washington State Highway Department, before returning to Colorado.
They raised their family in Greeley, CO. Ray worked for the Division of Water Resources from 1972 to 1978, and then as Water Referee for the State of Colorado through 2009. Ray served faithfully as elder at Gloria Christi Lutheran Church. He loved spending time with his family, which often included hiking in the mountains.
After Wanda's death, he met Arlene Bournia of Loveland, CO. They were engaged on
October 14, 2010.
Survivors are his fiancé, Arlene Bournia; children, Natalie and Fred Phelps of Grand Junction, Amy and Todd Rester of Michigan, Brenda Liesman of Illinois, and Joel Liesman of Grand Junction; grandchildren Ethan, Abigail, and Timothy Rester, and Ruth Phelps; and sisters, Donna Liesman, Jean McLean, and Barbara Rae. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Wanda.
Visitation 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Stoddard Funeral Home. Memorial service 10:30 a.m. Friday at Gloria Christi Lutheran Church. Interment Fort Logan National Cemetery.
