Refugio Serna-Rangel, 59, of Greeley whom also went by “Cuco” or the nickname “Chico” passed away on Monday, May 20th, 2019 in Greeley, Colorado. He was born on July 22, 1959 in La Cruz, Chihuahua, Mexico to Tiofilo Serna and Josefina Serna-Rangel.
Refugio “Chico” worked many jobs and was a jack of all trades. He spent time living and working in Los Angeles, CA in his 20’s as a landscaper, painter, carpenter, and construction worker. He would always mention that he worked on many celebrity homes including Michael Jackson’s home in Hollywood, one that he remembers painting and enjoyed sharing with people. When he moved to Greeley he worked maintenance for Manpower, R.R. Donnelley, and Kenton Manor.
Refugio was an avid Denver Broncos fan. He never missed Sunday night football games. He enjoyed watching soccer as well. Besides his love for the sport, he was very active and enjoyed exercising, weight lifting, running, and basketball. He loved to dance and was always the life of the party. You could always catch him outside wearing a big smile and breathing fresh air, whether adventuring to the mountains or doing work in the yard. Refugio enjoyed going to movies, cracking jokes, visiting his home country of Mexico, and playing with the family dogs. He was the most nurturing family-oriented man, always spending time with his family and providing for their needs.
Refugio is survived by his two children, Genie and Raymond; two godchildren, Jessica Delarosa and Jorge Serna whom lived with him for most of his life. He is survived by 9 siblings; Rosalia Serna-Rangel, Emilia Serna, Idalia Recio, Maria De Jesus Serna, Jose Angel Serna, Ramon Serna, Rogelio Serna, Jose Manuel Serna, and Tiofilo Serna. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, grandnieces, grandnephews, and friends. There are too many to count that knew and loved him as Uncle Chico or “Tio Cuco”.
Refugio is preceded in death by both his parents, two siblings, Lucy and Patrocina, and his beautiful dog, Tatiana “Tatis”.
Refugio was full of so much life. He enjoyed making everyone laugh and smile with his silly personality. If you were ever around him, you would never miss his beautiful dimples on his face when he smiled. He meant so much to many people, a wonderful father, uncle, brother, and friend. We know he is smiling down at us now without suffering or pain. We will forever remember his loving presence in our lives.
GO BRONCOS!
